type 1 breakfast - black coffee blended in smoothhie machine with 1 tbsp each of coconut butter and butter. Slow release energy with no spikes. Fabulous and no need to mess around with GU estimating bolus dose or morning spike/hypo. Why don't they tell type 1s about low carb too? Rhetorical point as I know we are all supposed to be terrified of sat fat for no good reason.

I don't think it is a rhetorical question but it is worth remembering the text at the top of every page:

I could not stomach your breakfast at any time and choose a higher carb diet with smaller spikes due to the flexibility I get from my pump but respect that we are all different with different tastes, lifestyles, other medical issues (e.g. I have a strong intolerance to coffee), and bodies.

Not sure why you ate offended. I simply gind. Even with a pump it's hard to get ahead of a carb spike. Great if you can and I miss toast . I simply feel that we aren't told about low carb and I think its a good idea for type 1s. Each to their own fave meal of course but this is a plea for more choices for type 1s hence the sharing g of ideas on this forum.

@Pandora71 I was not offended.
To be honest, I agree with you, there should be more choices.
My DSN has mentioned low carb to me but mentioned that I do not need it which I agree as my way of eating suits my lifestyle and allows me to manage my diabetes.
Maybe my response seemed offended because some foras’ members are evangelical low carbers. One of the things I like about this forum is the broad church approach and respect.

Need some fuel for tomorrow! Weetabix and banana. Is that enough for a half marathon?

Mackerel pate on toast is my favourite breakfast lunch and dinner

never had breakfast, unless were on holiday for some stupid reason, but since i was diagnosed i have taken to drinking a glass of milk when i wake up. i had to have milk in the hospital before they cold give me insulin and now i hooked.

Lunch potted beef on 2 slices of Hi Lo bread and dinner salmon with cauliflower and broccoli covered in cheese, i do have supper which is nearly always chocolate in moderation of course

May sound trite but my favourite breakfast, lunch and dinner is something different.
I just like variety. I have a different breakfast most days (usually, but not always, fruit based), enjoy bread but get bored with another sandwich for lunch and love experimenting with something new for dinner.
When I did DAFNE, we were told not to get too worried about carb counting because most people have the same breakfast every day, eat sandwiches for lunch and rotate 10 meals for dinner. Whereas, if I have had a dish for dinner in the last fortnight, it is off the menu for the next fortnight.

I have to admit i do worry about carbs all the time and dont think i eat enough, do get fed up with sandwiches and the only bread i can eat without having a spike is the Hi Lo bread.

Low carb just lead to insulin resistance with me. Best thing i ever did, giving it up. I find i can get the same a1c on normal carb and it tastes nicer and is cheaper.
The only low carb thing i still do is grated cauli in place of rice, cos its tasty and less hastle

Getting this back to the original question. Favourites for me when they happen. Breakfast, lunch or supper.
I love Greek salad.
Ousters. Or moules. Cockles peppered too.
Pork & cabbage.
Kippers.
Steak & mushroom.
Any Mediterranean style “thing” with monk fish.(or a “smooth hound” some sort of shark.)
It was a T1 fishmonger turn me on to Monkfish.

Love squid or calamari. (When cooked right.)
Venison.
Or a classic “fry up” dodging the beans.
I eat other stuff too. But these are just a few of my faves.

How about favourite treats? I have never particularly liked cake - very much forbidden when diagnosed in 1967.
But I have always liked pastries. Treat after a long run and no breakfast is a croissant (Riverford are the best), a hairy kiwi and a spoon of quark. Decadent or what? I lead a sheltered life!
