Good grief, just gone to another manufacturer of oats and the carb count is 6gms less for 40gms of oats. That equates to a unit of insulin for me. So I’ve had to drop that unit for my breakfast and hope and prey. I know there can be differences across the board but as much as that?

I'm surprised it is not more as there are so many different type of oats and of course the eventual carbs will be different depending on how you cook them and what you add to them.

It’s the same type of oats. I’m glad a took notice mind. I reduced my bolus accordingly plus it seems my basal is on the high side again today so it would have been a disaster if I hadn’t have taken notice..

What brand have you switched from and to?

Waitrose from Tescos

Can't beat 30g jumbo oats made with water and 40g of frozen blueberries.

How accurate do you believe the Carb Counts on packaging of anything whatever is? It's only 'a reasonable indication' - not precise.

Nothing to do with oats but I noticed that you use a pump and were diagnosed only 5 years after me. I wonder why I can't have a pump?

Your maths is wrong then

Waitrose essential is 22.4g carbs for 40g oats

Tesco basics one is 23.8g carbs for 40g oats

My figures come from the neutra check app after i scanned the bar code.

Not 100% accurate. Perhaps its because the difference is worth a whole unit of insulin which is alot for me.

Gill was diagnosed recently, and I thought you mentioned you were diagnosed 57 years ago.
Gill does not have a pump.
Eligibility for an insulin pump has little to do with "length of service"

I think it was @trophywench that @JonathanGi was directing his question to, @helli, as she posted just before him, and it’s in her signature that she’s a long term Type 1 and has a pump. I think she had major problems with severe hypos, including one when she was riding pillion on a motorbike!
As Helli says, it’s nothing to do with Long Service, I’d love one, but I'm never going to get one, because I manage adequately without.

Have you asked? If so, what did they say? I got a pump after 10 years of Type 1. It’s more whether you qualify than how long you’ve had Type 1.

Thanks for that. Yes, I have asked. Too well controlled has been the answer.
