Hi, I am looking forward to giving and receiving advice. Ive been type2 for about 20 years. Coping well. Im not an active person Im afraid, a cup of tea, a comfy sofa and My Kindle for reading/games are my idea of heaven
Who doesn’t like a nice sit down and a cup of tea?!
How have you found things over the last 20 years? Have things changed much in terms of the ways you manage your diabetes, or are they pottering along, much the same?
Hi, no nothing at the moment. Just got home following appt at hospital. Nothing too serious (I hope!) Had a biopsy taken from an area behind my ear - suspect Basel cell carcinoma. This is my 6th! Results in four weeks. However just changing the subject, after reading other members comments on what not to eat, what on earth do people have for brekkie!! I have been flaked with fruit every morning. Also still eat potatoes. I will try and keep more in touvh, so no not curiosity.
Hi, thank you. I am on metformin, and gliclszide (spelling!) Diet wise I do try but I do tend to eat what I want. Good things large doses, bad things small. Seems to work.

Hi, I've been quite bad over time, a lot at the beginning with acceptance - since retiring a lot better and I'm more sensible. Mind you, still have the naughty days!!
Hi, well nice to meet you. You cannot be doing too bad at twenty years experience. I look forward to reading your ideas. I too like a cuppa . I’m waiting on an op for a hip replacement that’s gone wrong. I have type 2 now not coping with it as well as I’d like too. No meds but don’t seem to go below 7.5 in the mornings anymore . But as I’m only doing it once a day ive no idea if it goes up and down . Trying to not let it worry me as much.
I enjoy an egg for breakfast, usually with grilled mushrooms and tomatoes, and occasionally a rasher of bacon. The egg comes poached, scrambled or as an omelette. I very occasionally have a half portion of oat bran or porridge oats made with unsweetened almond milk and topped with 40gm blueberries. I think a popular breakfast is yogurt topped with seeds, nuts and a little fruit.
I was a 68 year old couch potato when diagnosed, having been very active until my mid-60's when my hip gave out. The diagnosis took me to the swimming pool and I now "enjoy" Aquafit 3 times a week. It's as much for the social contact with others as the exercise. But yes - my Kindle is always charged, and the teapot ready - sadly the biscuit tin in now defunct!

Hi, thank you for that. Not a lover of eggs (yuck!!), but love mushrooms etc. You certainly sound a very fit person, I dont mind walking (on the flat - recovering from covid and one of the many side effects is breathlessness and tiredness, lot better than I was though - didnt feel ill with covid, its the long covid thats a nuisance ). I have a biscuit before taking a tablet that says 'eat with food' - well thats my excuse!! 😉

Hi, you sound to be coping fine - 7.5 am and no meds - you'll probably find it will go up during the day, no matter what you eat, do a test though after your main meal (and before), you might find something you're eating that could be tweeked a bit, but dont get paranoid about testing, from experience that can drive you made and cause a lot of worry. I go to surgery every three months and rely a lot on the reading from those blood tests. My nurse tells me if I need to look at what my diet is. Dont worry!

Creamy Greek style natural yoghurt (I buy a big 1kg pot from Lidl) with defrosted frozen summer berries, or raspberries or sour cherries (all from Lidl freezer section) with mixed seeds, chopped nuts, a dusting of cinnamon and a small sprinkle of Nutty Granola. Or I have an omelette with a variety of fillings usually including mushrooms and cheese with a side salad and a big dollop of cheese coleslaw..... that will usually keep me going all day without the need for lunch.
