Normally I think the only symptom you'd see from Metformin is stomach upset.

Wht symptoms are you having?

The only way to check for high or low levels accurately are by testing.

diarrhoea, hot and cold, fainting feeling. only newly diognosed and on slow release metform 2 a day. havnt been given any testing kit

You might be feeling faint due to dehydration and loss of electrolytes.
It is NHS policy not to give out testing kits so we need to buy our own - but once normal numbers are seen the need to test reduces drastically.

The diarrhoea sounds like the symptoms that some people get and that can cause dehydration etc. It is the electrolyte imbalance that can then cause headaches.

Most meters do pretty much the same job and have to comply with the same performance standards (though some go over and above those standards more than others). The major ongoing cost is that of the strips, which can vary up to £30 or more for a pot of 50.

The most reliable and affordable meters members here have found are probably the SD Gluco Navii or the Spirit Tee2 - which both have test strips at around £8 for 50

The diarrhoea sounds like the Metformin. A few people can't tolerate it event the SR version. If it continues after another week or two I would stop it and discuss with the GP.

I had terrible upset stomach with original Metformin and the doctor put me on the Slow Release reversion and it stopped. I've once been put on Sukarto (?) because it's cheaper to prescribe but had a terrible response to that - even worse than original Metformin, so it's noted on my prescription I have a bad reaction, so it doesn't get prescribed in future.

And the gluco navii can be found on ebay as well. That's where I get mine from (no amazon account for me). Homehealth-uk is the seller I think.

Sounds like symptoms of merform , I’m on the medication at 500 mg slow release 1 per day, I’ll be honest my doctor told me to take it at night and with dinner so when I’m sleeping I won’t get the side affect which was true but I still expirence it , the first night I took it , naseau headache and consitpation (the feeling needing to poop) but it disappeared the next day, then nothing at all . My doctor told me if I had those 2 symptoms and was having bad diaherra or I was throwing up at any point to immediately stop taking it and to go back and get a different type of medication . I’d be talking to your doctor about it .

Home Health Gluco Navvii give you a discount if you buy strips from them which make the very reasonable .Also the customer service is very good .navvii5 gives a discount on 5boxes of strips
