Thanks

@sheba602 . That sounds really horrible. What are your BG levels and have you tested for ketones.
To be honest I think you should get someone to take you to A&E without delay.
I am no doctor but am concerned that some of your symptoms could be related to DKA, even if they are not, I think it’s best to play it safe and be in the right place in case I am not wrong.
Please let us know how you get on.

Hi sheba602, welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry ot hear about your symptoms, they sound awful. As others have advised, I'd seek medical attention as soon as you can. You can give 111 a call asap and they'll advise on the best way forward. Do let us know how you get on.

HI THX tested negative for ketones so monitoring at the moment. May thx. Can one use the rapid insulin more than 3 times daily?Like if there is sugar spike? I am sure I will learn and adapt with time. Appreciate your help

Please explain what you mean as 'a sugar spike' - what your BG meter result said before the spike and what it is when it spikes? (eg 5.0 prior and 23.0 when it spikes.)

Yes, in theory you can use the rapid insulin more than three times a day eg if you eat a carby snack or if you need to correct a high sugar, but you should only do that if you understand the amount to take to correct a high and when to do so.

Edited to add that if you believe your high sugars are due to illness eg a virus or gastro bug, you should follow the sick day rules that you should have been given when diagnosed. Illness can send our blood sugar high and makes ketones more likely.

Hi and welcome. Yes, there is a risk of you becoming DKA and need urgent help. If your blood sugar stays mostly below the 20s and there are no ketones then you should be OK. In theory you can take the rapid insulin as many times as needed BUT and it's a serious BUT be careful not to 'stack' rapid insulin. Always allow several hours between injections to allow the previous one to stop having any effect; generally this is around 5 hours. You may not yet have been taught how to carb-count for meals i.e. adjusting your rapid insulin to suit the amount of carbs in the meal. For some strange reason the NHS often doesn't give this advice when starting insulin (my nurse did). If you are on fixed meal-time doses do ask the nurse for guidance on carb-counting as it will enable the best control. Also ask the nurse for guidance on balancing your Basal insulin.

Thank you so much
Is it strange I am having knee pains and swelling though the swelling has gone down and couldnt bend them.
What would be the cause of the stomach pains you think?
The blurred vision is a bit better but still not right
Appreciate your responding. Very grateful so thank you

Just to say what I assume is my basal Insulin Tresiba I use at night yet I have read its best to use in the morning?
What is your experience
Thankk you

Knee pain and swelling of the knee suggest you have injured it .

@sheba602 Yes, Tresiba is your basal insulin. Your DSN will advise you when best to take it. If you find it’s not working for you or is too inflexible, there are a number of other basal insulins you can try.

With Type 1, you really need to gradually become your own expert. You’ll slowly learn how things work. I highly recommend getting a book you can read and refer to. A good book often recommended here is Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas. Ignore the title - it’s informative for older adults too. You don’t have to read it and take it in all in one go. It’s something you can dip into as needed.

Your knees could be an injury, a response to a virus, or some kind of rheumatoid thing. I would see how they are over the next few days or so.

I take mine at 10pm and don't have any problems with it, I think (but not certain) @Bloden and @freesia may take it at night too xx

Learning about Dawn Phenomenon!! So much to learn in this new phase of health!! Also to avoid exercise if ketones high. Love exercise and carbs!! Have to adjust and adapt.
Very lucky to have found this forum.

Ask any questions, nothing is silly. I've been diagnosed 2 years and am still learning, getting things right but also still getting things wrong. The forum is a great place for sharing high and venting low feelings and celebrating achievements, diabetes related and others.

Hi again just a quick question how long does the blurred vision last? Is it something that occurs on and off based on insulin needs or the blood sugar fluctuating levels?
Type 1
