Does this mean anyone that gets the Libre on prescription will automatically get Libre 2?

As I understand it at the moment the talks are in progress of it been available on the NHS. So I doubt people will initially get it on prescription!

If you haven't seen Abbott's social media feeds, I think they are getting a tad annoyed by the frequent questions since their recent announcement 🙂

I have seen that I know about availability on NHS as I don't get from the NHS that is irrelevant to me.
I buy direct from Abbott.

It'll be a while before availability allows it to be made available everywhere for NHS people. I assume at some point they'll also be offering it for direct sale.

I was told by a rep last week via live chat it will be on the website when available.

I am not seeing that Libre 2 available on Libre website yet, I ordered more sensors last week and they arrived swiftly as usal, I thought there might have been a leaflet about Libre 2 but there was not.
I have just read elsewhere that some people seem to be reporting that when the Libre 2 comes out the Libre will be discontinued.

I cant wait for the libre 3 i have been useing libre 1 with MM 1 then 2 for years now and its been a life changer ,the best bit of the libre 3 is that you do not have to scan with your phone or the reader it sends readings to your phone making the MM redundant (brilliant) .

Really, like the idea of that.

Prefer to bypass 2 & go with 3, wont happen but would be good to have readings straight to phone without scanning.

I have heard there is a hack which allows you to use Libre 2 as a CGM. It is, of course, unofficial. And only works with an Android phone. But I'll take a look when I get my hands on a Libre 2.

I live in Germany and was using libre 2 for the last year or so, there is not much difference to the libre1, the alarms can be set but you still have to scan the libre 2 unless it’s tied to a secondary transmitter, the big improvement with the libre 3 will be its ability to communicate without scanning the actual sensor with your phone or reader.
I do think unless Abbot get into bed with a pump manufacturer they are going to get left behind the closed loop systems as that technology is gaining momentum, I think at last there appears to be real progress in the direction of an artificial Pancreas, I did hear through a friend of a friend so to speak that apple are quietly doing something in that direction but how true it is, I dont know but they would be a real game changer with the level of investment the have at their disposal.

Surely they will do that, once Libre 3 is a bit nearer. (I'm imagining it won't really be available for a while yet.) If I remember correctly they're pitching it as the same price as Libre 1 and 2 so that ought to be attractive compared to other CGMs. (I don't know whether there's a significant difference in accuracy or reliability compared to other CGMs.)

My health insurance company are saying the 3 will at the same price as the 2 here on Germany.
I use Guardian 3 for my Medtronic 670G and was using libre2 for 6weeks at the same time and there was not much difference in the readings as compared to the finger pricking I was doing for the guardian3 sensor so I think they are fairly reliable so I ditched the libre and just rely on 2 times a day finger pricking for calibration

If you really wanted to try the libre 2, you can find them on German ebay, www.eBay.de, I think you will be disappointed though, it’s not a giant leap over the libre 1 in my experience

I am not prepared to buy off ebay as if I did and had problem Abbott would not replace!

It Was only a suggestion in case you were desperate to try one, I’m not suggesting anyone would use eBay to manage their diabetes
What I’m really saying is there is not much difference having used both 1& 2 so not to get too excited about the 2

I suspect that Libre 3 will be capable of being calibrated, and capable of being part of a closed loop system. Can't see the point of a Libre 3 unless that happens.

Even without the rest it's a cheap CGM with a small sensor (and no transmitter). That seems sellable on its own. But yes, they'd be daft not to also be thinking ahead to closed loop systems, and I imagine calibration is part of that.
