Hey,
I haven't posted in a while as I've been doing well.
This morning I was told I smell like nail varnish remover so I tested my blood glucose (21.1mmol) and my ketones in urine (1+). Don't feel all that bad just the usual thirst tiredness and this time a bit of breathlessness. Struggling up the stairs and holding my 11 month old. My question is: could it be a sign of DKA even though my ketone levels are low? I'll admit I haven't eaten yet today purely because I've been busy sorting my son out
Thank you to anyone who responds

Id say that the 21.1 is high enough to seek medical advice. Ive told my OH that if I smell of pear drops or similar to tell me straight away. I would give 111 a ring or go to A&E.

Nail varnish smell suggests that you are breathing out ketones, which smell like acetone. You definitely need to take action regarding your high blood glucose levels. If you haven't been taught about correcting with short acting insulin, then you need to seek advice from NHS 111 or GP or A&E if you can't get help by phone. But driving with such high levels isn't recommended. Can you get someone round to look after your son while you sort out your blood glucose levels?
