Evening all, over the last 3 weeks since being diagnosed diabetic with A1C of 50, (8.1), along with low carb meals and 7lb lost in weight (another 7lb to go) I have been measuring pre & post meal readings, with all post meal readings to date from 6.2 to 7.6, and this has included a small plate of cod & chips from local chippy, a small KFC chicken and small chips but tonight was the real test, a Chinese take away, on display was an average size plate of special fried rice, noodles, prawns and chicken satay in peanut sauce, sweet & sour source, all in the interest of science you understand, 2 hours on and a reading of 9.1, mixed thoughts on that, as my wife being a non diabetic also has a meter and read 7.1, so made me feel slightly more at ease, but the Chinese trial was an itch that needed scratching, but only confirmed my earlier thoughts. The more I trial various meals, not to dissimilar to my non diabetic days other than portion sizes, and as my Doctor says you get out what you put in, everything thing in moderation and it’s totally positive results that await...........let’s see, good luck everyone

Well said Grahamf. If you want somebody else to do the cooking, then getting the portions right is a key thing to do, at least that is what I have found. I have now got my mates at the local chip shop to accept that a mini portion of their chips is a complement to their cooking and not an insult to their chips. My local indian take away (just got best indian takaway in area vote) worked hard to get low carb for me and fully understand that any carby dishes are OK in "starter" or "side dish" portions rather than full meals and that forgoing their bread or rice dishes is sensible for me. Can have a takeaway from either of those with no more than +3 on the meter. I like Chinese but don't do it regularly and again I am sure ways could be found to make the carb count acceptable.
