I can't really afford it but I've made an appointment at 2pm with a private consultant to see if he can tell me what is causing the bleeding behing the eye. I'm hoping that he will give me some information that will prepare me for next Tuesday's NHS appointment.

Will be thinking of you and hoping that the consultant can give you some answers that will help to reassure you about your condition.

Good luck

I hope the appointment goes well Amanda, and that you are given some answers 🙂

Thank you Jusme and Northerner.
The appointment was a complete waste of time and money. He didn't even look at my eyes properly and said that everything was ok. So I asked about the bleeding so then he checked again and said that he didn't know what had caused it and it may be the diabetes or it could be something else but he didn't know what. He said to see him again in two months, I don think I will.

Oh, what a shame, I'm sorry to hear this :(

Thanks Northerner I'm fuming. He got me to have an eye scan which takes two minutes without telling me it would cost £150. I'm fuming:( thank goodness that I've got the Moorfields appointment in July.

Sounds a rip off :( Hopefully, Moorfields will be more professional and come up with the goods 🙂

Yes I'm relying on Moorfields🙂

So sorry to hear what happened and I hope the time passes quickly for your appointment at Moorfields. Thinking of you.

What an absolute sickener AJ! In any other service we wouldn't pay but these medical experts get away with it.

I was once referred to a private consultant via my GP, paid £120 to be told it wasn't him I needed but a rhematologist! Ching ching...next please! 😡

Hope Moorfields have some answers for you.

Thankyou Jusme, Amigo and Grovesy. Amigo you're right it is Ching ching. There are some good privates consultants but with others it feels like your'e their cashpoint machine. But then sometimes there is no alternative when you're got an urgent referral on the NHS and still have to wait several weeks when you're really worried. Anyhow I can't afford to see anyone privately anymore.

Sorry to hear this Amanda - no wonder you are upset 😡

Hoping the Moorfields appointment restores your faith in the medical profession.

Thanks Mike

Hey Amanda long time no chat!! :D
I wish you all the luck and hope something positive comes out of this for you.
Always thinking about you guys and girls on here! x

How on earth are they allowed to get away with it - maybe because they know that the BMA employ QC's and can contest any attempt to prove that you are not getting the service you expected and desired and that they don't have to foot the bill. I had a battle with them that equalled El Alamein and I eventually won - but it was bloody hard work.

I don't know how they get away with it Michael but it happens too often:( I'm glad that you won your battle with them.

In desperation in the 12 months prior to diagnosis I went to a private foot specialist (can't remember his proper Monica!). I had excruciating night cramps, a B12 deficiency that nobody could fix and I was really worried. Anyway I paid £400 for him to tell me there was no circulation issue, no nerve damage, no nothing. So when I asked why I was getting cramp every night he said "it's probably age related, tendons get less flexible as you get older...blah blah". When I said I'm hypermobile, I have four times more range of movement in all my joints than a normal human so even with a 50% reduction I'm still bloody flexible, he at least had the decency to look embarrassed. Still charged me for a "flexibility" test though, which was totally unnecessary for a hypermobile person had he actually read my referral, or paid enough attention to said test....four times the movement range is pretty obvious. Utter rip off.

Sorry you didn't have a better experience AJ and very much hope you get sorted soon 😱

Sorry that you also had such a bad time KookyCat:(
