So after a breakfast of bread and cheese and lunch of pizza with 2 glasses of wine and some olives I was concerned! Just took my blood sugar and 3.9!! Maybe the heat is getting to me!

Maybe its just the wine:D

I think it's the exercise. Everyday in Rome I ate carbs. I had pizza, ice-cream, fresh pastry (with patisserie cream), home made lasagne. I didn't over eat but boy did I walk! We were out by 9.30am ever day and generally would go straight out for dinner after sight seeing all day. Every evening before bed my BG was never over mid fives. No dawn phenomena. So heat, sweating and walking greatly improved my BG levels without me having to overly worry about carbs. I was never going to eat a whole pizza for dinner, I had a slice for lunch, but I didn't have to stick to salads. I had ice-cream as my dessert (either diary or vegan). I had my pastry for breakfast each day knowing I would be walking it off. We avoided processed food places as my DD is vegan so we sought out vegan friendly restaurants which provided more "home prepared" type food.

My feet are now very sore but it's made me realise how much I need to up my daily exercise.

Well I still have to take background insulin of course - but I find I need far less - if any - with meals. A number of past holidays have been beach every day rather than slogging the pavements and cathedral aisles - but the important thing is - the 20 minute walk to the beach in THAT heat. The only time ever this didn't happen and I put weight ON, on holiday was a water sports one, where the beach was just down a flight of steps and it was FULL board. We kept saying we wouldn't eat so much at lunchtime - but the food was bloomin lovely !

I'm off for a beach holiday this week but we are self catering. I try to avoid all-inclusive as I eat/drink too much. I like HB but as it's just me and DD and she's vegan so it's SC. So hopefully a daily swim, a few good walks in the heat and I'll be fine to have relax my stricter home lower carb diet! One thing I discovered on holiday was cheese triangles. I haven't eat since a child (they were red and called something like gold spinner???) They were so good I ate 3 of them at breakfast and was tempted to steal some for a snack later!

Perhaps the NHS should prescribe holidays to hotter climates for D suffers struggling with high BG:D
