I know there's been discussions on here on the possible BS lowering effects of cinnamon but they pre-date me and I was wondering whether there was any up to date thinking on its efficacy.

Personally I can't stand the stuff and am not desperately seeking any quick fixes or snake oil remedies but an American friend has told me her relative 'eats what she likes because the cinnamon keeps her diabetes under control!'....

My reaction was to think I'd heard the one about the 3 Bears too but it made me wonder.

Anybody use it to good effect?

I use cinnamon, love the stuff. Don't think it does much, perhaps helps with GL. No it does not effect anything for me.

If you look on the internet you will find cinnamon cures everything from diabetes to Parkinson's disease. I found one article which stated that Diabetes UK said that cinnamon can lower blood sugar. Really? It is of course all phooey. If it did work, do you not think that doctors would recommend it? Do you not think drug companies would be desperately searching for the active ingredient to patent?

I sprinkle cinnamon on my cappuccinos with no discernible benefit. It just tastes nice.

Anyway, turmeric is the flavour de nos jours. That's supposed to prevent Alzheimer's, and you can't beat that claim.

I feel like curry tonight.

Curcumin...now you're talking! There's some very exciting and persuasive research being done into its positive and restorative effects in cancer sufferers. The work being done at Newcastle is particularly interesting and credible.

As for cinnamon...well I can't stand the flavour so I may have to forego any benefits from that!

That's what I mean about doctors paying attention. If something works, they will explore it and use it. There's certainly something about curcumin that's got everyone's eyes lighting up. You are right about the work in Newcastle, which for some odd reason seems to be the go-to city for cutting edge research.

if only ....................
I don't like the stuff, but if it worked I'd be eating it by the bucket-full.

I bought some cinnamon tablets awhile ago after reading something about BG lowering effects. No noticeable difference and I got bored remembering to take them!
I agree if they worked more would be made of it but sometimes I just get sucked in! 😱

I heard that ginger up the arse turns you into a 100 metre world record holder

They did an experiment with cinnamon reducing BS spikes on Food Unwrapped a fee weeks back. They had 2 people eating rice pudding & one was loaded with cinnamon. The results showed a smaller spike in the person taking cinnamon, but as we are all different on how BS reacts to food, l think the experiment was seriously flawed. They also mentioned that too much is bad for you.

I felt sure DL had written that! :D And I'm sure you're right Owen but I might resist the experiment!

Once you mentioned the rice pudding there Mark, my mind wandered firmly away from cinnamon! Could just eat a bowlful! 😉

@Amigo, I have a T2 pal who swears by the stuff and won't take his Metformin because he reckons the cinnamon does it. Needless to say his HbA is usually horrendous, but he won't be told.

I love the stuff myself, and ginger too but I haven't noticed them making a blind bit of difference to my numbers. As fas as I'm concerned it's all a load of hooey.
