Weight gain after eating porridge

After getting my diabetes into remission I re introduced porridge into my diet and now I’ve noticed my weight has increased by almost 3kg. Can anyone advise what this might indicate please?

I'm not sure that just having porridge for breakfast would result in gaining weight, especially as much as 3 kg (half a stone in old money), but being in remission doesn't mean we can revert to our old eating habits. Have you made any other changes to the regime that enabled you to achieve remission?

No I haven’t and I don’t experience any other side effects. My body doesn’t look as if it has gained weight if anything it looks as if has lost weight

I've so far avoided porridge since diagnosis but had it made with water in the microwave then adding a little cold milk. What size portion are you eating and how do you serve it?

Depends how much you’re eating surely? The OP didn’t give quantities or ingredients

So called 'Functional weight' gain, possibly. Adding oats/carbs may have increased glycogen stores and water retention in muscles, which can make quite a bit of a difference, and is a possibly a sign of improved metabolism after getting diabetes into remission. If you're doing more exercise muscle mass may have increased and this can also improve how good our muscles retain glycogen. Fat may be getting distributed better around the body better if your metabolism and diet has improved.

1/3 cup of porridge with 2/3 cup of milk served with sweetener and spices. I made an error in my figures earlier it’s 0.7kg I’ve gained not 3kg, sorry
Ah, that sounds more plausible. Had you been following a lower carb diet before then? I lower my carbs, though not excessively, and I find if I do eat rice, or pasta, or a lot of bread, all carb heavy, I gain weight temporarily because of water retention,

Thanks for advice everyone. Although no side effects it does seem to have stopped the weight loss, will stick to yoghurt till the colder months. The cooking and cooling theory does seem to work.
