I have been diagnosed with t2 last week and also suffering with bells palsey at the moment.
My concern is that my vision is deteriorateing and blurred at any range.
The nurse said it is more than likely my bg level being to high,
I am on 80 mg of Gliclazide.

Your nurse is probably right - as your BG levels normalise you will find that symptoms disappear. If you are still worried then speak with your nurse.

This is a very common - and temporary! - problem when you are newly-diagnosed, hopefully things will improve over the next week or two. High blood sugar levels distort the shape of your eye, causing the blurriness. I had the problem for two or three weeks but then things were fine. As your blood sugar levels improve, so should your vision - don't go buying any expensive glasses, or if you already wear glasses, don't change your prescription yet.

My eyes went blurry not long after being diagnosed. Eveythings returned to normal now.

It will take a little time for things to settle down. When first diagnosed I was advised to wait for 3 months before getting an eye test.

I had Bells Palsy at the beginning of 2012 and found that affected my vision too. Once I got over that (took about 6 weeks for me) my eyes felt better too.

Your nurse will give you reassurance as will a good opticians.

I was told diabetes affects eyesight and can settle down. Also told to wait a while before buying a new set of glasses. Several months after getting a new set of glasses. Will be due my second eye test since being diagnosed soon.

I could swear someone asked exactly the same only the other day - and I wrote quite a long reply amongst other ones from other people??????

In fact I know I did and that it was you MITCH - I recognise the fishy - wonder if we've got photos of the same one since we have hundreds of the bloody things ........ bloomin' gut buckets, mirrors, once they get to any size worth bivvying for aren't they! What nationality is that one - Brit, Frog or other?

I had lots of temporary problems with vision, I wear specs and couldn't see a thing with or without them, it was very disconcerting. Here's what the optician said to me, the lens of the eye requires constant hydration like a contact lense all soft and squishy, high blood sugar makes you dehydrated because your body is desperately trying to get rid of that excess sugar via your bladder, so your eyes get dry and the lens changes shape. Sugar crystals can also infiltrate the lens which also cause visual difficulties. Once your blood sugar is under control it should resolve itself, because the sugar crystals dissolve and the lens become properly hydrated. Always best to consult an optician though because it's feasible it's not diabetes related and you need specs or if you wear them already you might need a change. If you do need glasses though or a change be careful because you need to wait to make sure the prescription is right 🙂

Hi jenny no I've not asked the question before, I'm new on here. That fish in pic was 34lb 12Oz (running the risk of t2 lol) caught in uk.

I'm newly diagnosed too I started getting really blurred unfocus-y vision whilst I was still in hospital but it's pretty much back to normal now, my diabetic nurse said it could take up to a month or so to clear (in the end I think my eyes took about 2 and a half weeks to get to a pretty normal state) I believe like everyone has said its to do with blood glucose levels, it's incredibly frustrating but it does clear as things settle down 🙂

I'm short sighted. Have been for at least 36 (how long?????) years. Most things being blurry is actually normal. I don't know if it was actually affected by the diabetes. Did get a new prescription almost exactly two years ago.
