These are really getting me down. I am on the fourth one since the beginning of December. My doctor says it is just a virus doing the rounds and it is sorting me out.

I try to avoid people with upset tummies as much as possible and I have stuff to relieve the fall out, but that has stopped working or wont deal with a virus.

Yesterday my grown up son came in and made a dash for the loo, he had picked up the bug and lo and behold a few hours later it had got in to me too.

The washing machine is working over time and it is costing me a small fortune on tena lady pants just to contain things because I can't get to the bathroom on time.

I'm fed up with sleeping in the arm chair because our bathroom is down stairs and I am fed up with being cold because I have to keep changing and I am fed up with being in the loo so much

Thanks for listening to me whinge. I am at a loss as to know what to do.. The doctor is unwilling or unable to give me anything that will help, I am perpetually knackered and finding it difficult to make plans that I might have to cancel at any time.

It must be terrible for you hun. Hope you are better soon and manage to keep the bugs away. X

Can you get some probiotics Caroline and see if they restore the natural flora of your gut.
Do you still have the commode you were talking about awhile back, if so perhaps put it in your bedroom.

Not nice for you Caroline. :( Remember to keep hydrated and I hope it sorts itself out very soon.

Sorry to hear you're so poorly! Loperamide is what doctors usually give for diarrhoea etc and it's brand name is immodium! (Gps just like to be confusing) but I'd recommend buying some if you're unable to get to the loo in time!

Dioralyte is also good for rehydration after or during illness. I'm fond of the black currant sachets!

Keep resting, eating and drinking and I hope you feel better soon!

Hi Caroline That sounds awful for you.
I really think it's time your GP requested a stool sample to identify the bacteria and then hopefully can prescribe antibiotics as necessary. Is there someone who could collect the sample pot from surgery for you? You could ask surgery on phone as they can't expect you to attend when you're so poorly.
Hope you soon get this sorted.

I don't have the commode any more and when my tummy goes on an away day it is not big enough.
I was also thinking about getting something like actimel or yakult drinks

Thanks for suggestion but the immodium doesn't always work. I keep in dioralyte which helps.

Thanks for replies and support

These are full of carbs and very expensive try getting some probiotic capsules or tablets from a health store.

I know there are lots of carbs in them, but at the moment it is difficult for me to get out because I have been wafting in for nurses to come change the dressing on my foot. and when tummy is out I need to be within hoping distance of the bathroom. I'll have to persuade someone to go to the local health store for me.

Can you not order some online?

I'll have a look and see what I Can find. For that sort of thing I prefer the chemist or health food shop, but no harm in looking.

Holland & Barrett have an online shop

As a matter of interest Caroline what medications are you, and do any of them have bowel problems as a side effect?

I'm on atorvastatin, omeprazole, ramipril, sitagliptin. dispersible aspirin and folic acid. Haven't had gastric problems with them and have been on them since August or September time. I was on metformin which gave me terrible problems, when I was in hospital I did a lot of talking to the diabetes team who reviewed my meds. and changed things over for me. I am also on humulin M3.

I'll check the Holland & Barrett site and see what they have to offer., thanks for the suggestion

Have looked at Holland & Barrett site and have placed an order for stuff, including a multi vitamin for little feller too.
