A question for other Tresiba users - has anyone else noticed that it says you can keep it out of the fridge for 8 weeks? I've always thought insulin generally would only last for 4 weeks out of the fridge - that's what I was told by DSN when I was diagnosed and it's what I've read here - so I'm quite surprised to see Tresiba will last double this time (also rather embarrassed that I didn't notice before, I've been discarding my cartridges after 4 weeks 😳 ).

I'm curious to know whether it really lasts a full 8 weeks without losing any of its efficacy - does anyone else have a small enough dose that they'd be using a cartridge for that long? Mine should last me about 7 weeks on my usual dose, so I'll keep this one going after the usual 4 weeks and see what happens (hopefully nothing!).

I use mine after 4 weeks as I was told when I was given it that it lasts the 8 xx

Be interested to hear if you notice any changes between weeks 4 and 7 @TheClockworkDodo - looks like you’ll be needing to get new supplies less frequently which will be less of a faff 🙂

If they say 8 weeks, you can be sure it’s safe to use. They must have tested it to make that statement. It would probably last longer, so the 8 weeks is probably well on the safe side. It doesn’t suddenly go off at 8 weeks.🙂

No, like most use by dates I'd expect it to be on the safe side in terms of going off - I often eat food past its best before date, though I wouldn't risk it with fish (or meat, if I ate meat). I was just surprised to see it would last quite so much longer than other insulins and wondering whether there is a quid pro quo, eg it not being as effective if used for longer. But maybe it's just that it's much more expensive, otherwise you have to wonder why they don't prescribe it for everyone, or at least for everyone on a low basal dose.
