Evening,

We had a Chinese last week, havoc ensued high teens for long time spoilt enjoyment of ?treat? i had a bit of everything which has sweet sauces rice noodles the lot (i was famished) made me annoyed and i told wifey next time i should have 1 portion of rice and 1 meat dish then it would be easier to control!

On other takeaways i rarely have pizza but the d doesn't stop anything else it's more the bank manager who stops takeaways being a regular thang!

Just wondered if anyone wants to share thoughts advice or moan too.

Cheers,

Over-n-out

Rossi :D

Not had a Chinese or Indian take away for a good while, I have to watch things like nam breads as they send BS sky high. I won't have chips and nam together its one or the other, and careful what size they are.

Chips used not to be a problem but now are again sending levels high, its a case of the amount I eat now and things like curry sauce are left of the chippy run.

Piza's are not a problem to me, as I can't stand them as such don't know what effect they will have.

Went with a friend to a kebab place the other night had to give the food a miss it was a disaster for my BS looking at what was on offer :(.

I am a fussy eater, and not helped at the moment as my BS swing wildly, constantly flipping from high to low so I have to be extra careful with foods that contain white flour or foods that are sweetened with sugars. If not sure I avoid, got caught out again by the full fat coke factor not happy as already had corrected for a low ish BS level and it was compounded by the coke.

The best takeaway option from what's available locally here is a shish kebab (solid pieces of meat) with salad and skip the pitta/naan. Next best is from the Chinese, chop suey and egg foo yung without rice. Curries can be problematic, but tandoori chicken/duck without sauce is nice just with salad. Pizzas are BAAAAD for me, I can't just have one slice!

Luckily, take-aways are hard to come by in rural Spain. All this talk of Chinese, Indian, pizza...has got me drooling! Mmm-m-m-m...🙄

I have an indian regularly and no issues. Tandoor meat combination starter and garlic mushrooms. Sometimes I'll nick an onion bhaji as my indian does really small crispy ones. Then main is another dryish option mostly chicken/lamb/prawn shashlick and a side of saag. I have 1 chapati and no rice and as I say no high sugars or lows I'm glad to say as i do live the occasional indian takeaway. I do stay clear from Chinese because of what you've described but I know I should give it a go as there must be options like chicken foo yung and chop suey (just not the stuff I like - crispy beef and lemon chicken).

It's the high fat content that causes such a sustained rise in BG levels over several hours. I don't know whether you're on a pump? What we do is bolus for all carbs, then set an increased basal rate of 120% for about 6 hours. 🙂

Hi Rossi!

My approach is similar on a pump to the one I used on MDI.

Basically I 'add a third' to the amount of carbs I *think* I am going to be eating and split the dose roughly 60% up front and 40% 2 hours later (these days I automate that with a dual wave).

Adding a third is a bit of a high risk strategy, and I do have to keep an eye on levels as the boluses run through, but it seems to take account for my own general underestimation of the carb counts involved and also the extra/delayed BG rises from fat and protein.

Thanks for the tips riri. I NEVER know what to have at an Indian and I'm too much of a coward to inject extra insulin, so I end up feeling like rubbish afterwards. 😱

Why are you afraid to change your insulin dose? You're supposed to if you're on Apidra.
