Apologies if this has already been asked.

Looking at having a chinese take away on Sat night. Is Curry Sauce high in sugar and best to avoid?

If so, I am looking at having Mushroom Chow Mein as an alternative?
Thanks for your advice.

You need to look at the whole meal contents as it is not just sugar that might be in the sauce but the rice, noodles that are the carbs.
Something like Sweet and Sour is not too good as that is very sweet and batter on things will be high carb.
You might get a good idea of the relative carb content by looking at supermarket 'take away' type meals but it will depend on portion size.
Looking in Carbs and Cals at their example take away foods, Beef Chow Mein is 40g carb per portion of 275g whereas chicken curry is about 8g carb for a similar portion, beef in black bean sauce about 18g carb, but then it would depend on what you had with that, rice or not.

Diabetes isn't just about sugar but all carbs. What were you planning on having the curry sauce on? I am guessing rice or chips and both those are far higher in carbs than the curry sauce.
I get stir fried Chinese veg or foo young which is essentially a Chinese omelette. I usually have a couple of dessert spoons (not tablespoons) of my partners fried rice to soak up any juice from the stir fried veg and if he has a dish like duck or chicken with ginger and spring onion I will usually have a bit of that or indeed you could have a whole portion of that but just limit the amount of rice or noodles you have.
Chow mein contains noodles which is carbs and quite difficult to separate out the noodles from the veg and meat when it is all mixed together like that, in order to make it lower carb so probably not the best choice either.

Thank you for your advice and guidance.
Being a vegetarian , and not a huge fan of tofu I have always struggled with what to have from a Chinese Takeaway.

I will look into the menu and see what my options are.

Mushroom Egg Foo Yung is essentially just a mushroom omelette if you are vegetarian, or the stir fried veg side dish that I mentioned above that I get.

Getting back to your original question, curry sauce won't be that high in carbs itself, maybe a bit of sugar and starch to thicken it. I suppose you could have some curry sauce with the Egg Foo Yung. It is the rice, noodles, chips and to some extent the prawn crackers which are the main problem with a Chinese takeaway. .

Chinese is not as easy as Indian meals when veggie. What would you normally have had?

Perhaps if the curry sauce is the main thing you want rather than the chips, ask for a portion of beansprouts with the sauce?

I always went with mushroom foo yong back when we had a good Chinese take away, but when it changed hands there was a bit change and we stopped buying from them - so you do need to find a good one not mixing batter into the eggs, to make it cheaper to produce.

Hope you are enjoying the campervan!
We love to go tent camping, would love to get a campervan one day!

I will be taking the van for - hopefully - the ticking off of the welding which needed to be done.
A campervan is definitely something to try out to see how you like it.
The LT 46 LWB van has a big comfortable bed at the back, a wood burning stove, inbuilt and portable 2 burner hobs, a folding movable table, slide out loo compartment, various seats and stools, so in the morning I get up, slide back the curtains and see what the weather is doing, make a low carb breakfast from what I have in the coolbox and consider what to do with the rest of the day whilst the coffee is brewing.
I have opened the curtains once and wondered where all the tents went which were there last night - they all blew away, apparently. I slept right through all the excitement.
