Has anybody heard of this - am I behind the times? Or is it just another of those American bandwagons? There seemed to be a JDRF connection with the link I found online. Thought I'd check on here first!

Only in the last few weeks.

The only information I have gleaned seemed to be about timing doses, especially when assisted by a CGM or other continuous feed of data... specifically dosing early and, if high, waiting until close-to or in-range before eating. I kinda think of that as 'using insulin' myself, but hey-ho.

DUK seem to have a bit of a *thing* with him coming up in a few weeks - some sort of talk I think.

Don't know any more than that really. Except that the term 'sugar surfing' irritates me already. Humpf!! 🙄

Had a bit more of a fish about and it's a bunch of CGM-related techniques/tips that someone has developed to try to keep BGs in range more often.

There's a slideshow/presentation here (without the accompanying explanation, obviously!) - http://www.slideshare.net/StephenPo...t-tlc-advanced-diabetes-retreat-april-26-2014

Some good stuff, but not much help to many while CGM is so prohibitively expensive, unfortunately.

There's a book about to come out too, apparently, which might explain the current marketing push.

Thanks Mike! Obviously hasn't impressed any of the other knowledgeables on here anyway! I wondered if I'd missed a trick - but seems like it will come to the fore if it becomes useful! I do love the Libre as a form of CGM, but looking at it at the right time does become an issue, so I might look to see what the book suggests

I had a look at his sugar surfing FB site and it looks over complicated to me for something that I think that I'm already doing. I may have misread it, or oversimplified, but it seems to suggest that if your CGM says you are starting to go up then bolus, if you're not in target when you're due to eat then wait for meal bolus to bring it down etc - a no brainer. I do this with the Libre but always cross check with BG machine before correcting. Also I usually don't eat my evening meal until 8pm so I test at 6pm and, if necessary, do a correction the so I'm in target when I eat my dinner. Sugar surfing seems to be a lot of marketing hype.....but I may be wrong🙂

I agree! but we are all pretty good at this, maybe it's not out there enough - or even just a reminder of the principles, keeping up-to-date etc? It always annoys me when someone is profiting from it though - although we all need some written back-up I think

Sounds a bit too technology-reliant and micro-managing to me, I have a life to live 🙄 As others have said, this is more or less what I do anyway, by trying to time my insulin to peak with my meals, I just don't have the tech to see how close I'm coming. I can't be doing too badly though, with an HbA1c of 31/5.0% 🙂

I suppose it might be something for people learning about how their body works/responds, but after a while experience ought to be the best thing to apply. 🙂

My results are such a roller coaster that I am constantly looking for ways to improve. Don't you micro-manage? How do you get it so right otherwise?

I am very lucky, and I appreciate that very much 🙂 Clearly, I have retained some beta cell function (which is something I needed to make no effort to achieve!), and I suspect this is a major factor in 'smoothing' my numbers, plus I am boringly predictable in my meal content and timings. Running also helps with all aspects of my health, and I think is a huge factor in helping me retain good insulin sensitivity, with the need for relatively low doses.
