At risk of diabetes
Hi
I’m pre type 2 diabetic
Im controlling my blood sugar levels using a low carb diet but i noticed a spike in my numbers today. I take my reading 2 hours after an evening meal but today i skipped lunch. Would this have an affect on my readings making them higher

Many thanks

It depends on what you ate for dinner. After not eating lunch you might have eaten more at dinner to compensate.
I only eat morning and evening as I found that made my readings more stable, as a long term policy which I still follow after some years in remission.
I had a normal Hba1c in 2017 after being diagnosed in 2016, and have remained at the top end of normal ever since.

Thanks. Maybe it was the fries (carbs) that caused the anomaly as I’m eating a very low carb diet but cheated today.

Well - yes - eating potato and getting a high reading isn't an anomaly it is normal when you are a diabetic.

Those potatoes could definitely be a culprit. It would certainly make a big spike in my levels.

You might find it useful to calculate the amount of carbs at each meal if you are not doing so already. You mention that you are eating a low carb diet. How many carbs are you aiming for at each meal?
We all need to find how many carbs we can tolerate, and that will be different for each person.

I think a lot of us feel that we need some cheats days during this lockdown.

Hi everyone
Thanks for the responses, 🙂
I was cheating one day a week having some fries

I noticed that when i eat 3 meals a day the spike isnt too bad after fries. But yesterday i skipped lunch then had a small amount fries and it spiked much higher

I was wondering if skipping the meal perhaps makes it worse. Maybe im better off making sure that i eat at regular times. I was aware that some people skip meals to help but it may not work for me

Stay safe all
