Hi, I don't post here very often as I have been somewhat in denial about my diabetes. I snack for England and I find that has made my habit not as good as I would like.my weight is ok , blood pressure etc also, but my sugar levels are a bit high .
I think i can sort this out , I have done it before , and after my check up this afternoon I hope I have the incentive to get on with it again.
The doc has given me a prescription ( reluctantly it seemed ) for sitagliptin ..has anyone any experience of it ? I looked on the net and the side effects look horrific. I am tempted to just try my own way first, he wants another blood test in 3 months. What is anyone's advice....please ?

Hello Ann W. I took Sitagliptin for a few months. The good news is that I had no side effects from it. The bad news is that it didn't have any effect on my sugar levels either.

Thanks, this is what I need to know ! I am going to just try to be better controlled on my own I think , I have to go back in 3 months for a further blood test , so I shall see how it goes . Thanks

Hello Ann
Sorry to put the other side of the story! I was put on Sitagliptin a few years ago, and lasted just a couple of weeks before I abandoned it. I was losing weight and bg readings improved, but probably only because it made me feel so ill that I could not bear to eat much. Ended up having to take Immodium every other day to cope with the side effects. Not good.

Thank you very much for your comment. I shall not be taking it I think , there doesn't seem to be a need...I am sure I can do this just by eating more carefully ! I hope so. Thank you for saying what you did ! I hope you are ok now.

Hi. I was on Sitagliptin for 2 years. I had a slight headache for 2 weeks and no problems after that. Yes, it does have one or two rare but serious side effects but they do appear to be rare. It helped my blood sugar a bit. It works by suppressing a DPP-4 enzyme that in turn suppresses insulin production after a meal. This means that insulin production is extended. It stops working as your blood sugar returns to normal so doesn't cause hypos.
