Retina eye test questions

So on thursday i go for my first retina eye test thingy
Not looking forward to it simply cos things to do with eyes give me the eebiejeebies but go i will cos i know i have to.....grin and bare it
I know whats going to happen cos ive read up about it but theres something i cant find anywhere so i thought id ask my learned associates on here

Simple question........how long does it take?

Getting to the health centre is easy for me but been offered a lift home when its done.....just want a rough idea of time so they know when to pick me up
 
After the drops have been put in the eyes have to wait for the to work.The the photos themselves a quick.

Half an hour to an hour, typically. You'll have a basic eye test first, they put drops in, then you wait for 15 minutes or so, then they take the photos. But of course it depends, they might sometimes run late for a variety of reasons (or early, if people don't show up).
 
Wow!. Mine have never taken more than 30 minutes.
It's a quick check who I am and that I can read an eye chart.
Then they give me eye drops and I am sent back into the waiting room.
After 5 to 10 minutes, the eye drops are working and my eyesight is blurred.
Back in for 2 photos per eye.
Then that is it.
 
Hi mate, I've had a couple of the eye test now. It does not take long about 30 mins. Obviously depends how busy they are in the place where you have it done. First time I went there were few other peeps and I had to wait 10 mins before going in. 2nd time there was no-one waiting and they saw me straight away.
The procedure is you go in and they put some drops in your eyes. This can make your eyes water and / or sting a bit, buts its really no biggie at all. My eyes did not sting at all the first time, but did sting a bit the 2nd time.
Then you go and sit in the waiting area for 10 - 15 mins for the drops to do its stuff, eg: dilate the eyes/pupils.
After waiting 10-15 mins they call you back in and take a few photos, using a machine very similar to the one in an opticians.
Taking the photos takes only a few minutes (5 max). They will chat to you while they do this, explaining what they are doing, etc, and you can ask questions, etc.
As your eyes are dilated by the drops, when you go outside it will look really bright, so they advice taking sun glasses.
They also advise not to drive for few hours after having the test (or presumably operate heavy machinary, etc).
I found after 1/2 hr to an hour my eyes are pretty much back to normal, but everyones different.

Mine have been quick too. I'd also add that I've never had any issues with brightness afterwards. While I didn't drive for a few hours, I was fine walking home and then working on a PC.
 
I haven't had mine yet as I cancelled/postponed the request to go to a supermarket car park. I had a cataract op at the end of October which has caused a recurrence of uveitis and now a macula oedema. Because my pupils are stuck down I'm told they cannot dilute my pupils but I still get the drops before the photo. I'm seeing consultant next month and am going to ask if they could check. I see a retinal consultant and they have photos going back 15 years
In the eye hospital last appointment was under an hour including consultant. One before I waited an hour before I had the eye test.

Daughters offered to pick me up when its done but i know the health centre has a small car park with quite tight spaces......and i know she will be driving her partners 4x4....bloody great big thing it is lol......just trying to work things out so shes not sitting about for me
 
Well that was an anti climax
Walked in...straight in to see nursey.....drops in.....into see foot nursey which i wasnt expecting.....back in to see eye nursey for eyeball pics.......out of the door in total of 15 minutes!!

Phoned daughter to tell her not to bother coming out since i could walk home before she got to me.....that way im getting my steps in

And cos its such a grey overcast day i havnt even needed to put on the sunglasses i bought

Pleased it went well, my eyes usually take hours to get back to normal so I look as if I'm on something. You can guarantee if you hadn't bought the sunglasses it would have been sunny.
 
Oh things are a little blurry but im not light sensative like i thought i would be

I found my eyesight went back to normal fairly quickly. Less than two hours I seem to recall. You should get a letter with your results within the next 2 weeks.
 
She told me it would be 2 to 3 weeks
 
Here the letter usually takes about a week to arrive, but if you have the NHS app your results might be on there sooner.

Emphasis on Might see results on NHS app.
My Gp surgery is a heavy user of the NHS App but there is no sign of retinal scan results on there.
Another postcode lottery case.

Mine now appear on the NEC Care secure portal, so (by the looks of it) entirely separate to the NHS app.

I was surprised to see it, I had logged in for something else.
 
Cool, nice one, glad it was an easy one. My 1st one didn't sting at all, but the 2nd one did!
As others have said you will get results in a letter soon, or if on one of the NHS apps, (I use the Patient Access app) you may get the results faster. Cheers matey... 😎
