Interesting idea! I guess it makes sense, in much the same way as having something sweet after a main meal doesn't seem to have the same impact as the same thing on an empty stomach.
 
Yes worth a try everydaysupsandowns. Might be a tad odd eating the contents of a sandwich then eating the bread though 🙄
 
from the article, it seems they gave the carb a ten minute head start, so they were doing the equivalent of eating the bread then the filling in the sandwich. a ten minute head start is certainly enough for any high GI carb to leap into my bloodstream, but I normally find eating it together with the protein and fat etc slows it down enough to keep pace with my insulin. Assume if you eat it afterwards, it slows down even further, which would be good for type 2s.
