Hi newtosite. Have downloaded1800 cal menu plan and some of the recipes. I nited that ingredints list is for the main recioe. Eg Tray Baked Salmon n Vegetables. On the menu it says for 4 but 95grams of cooked rice. Is that 95rams per person or to bedivided x 4? Sorry if I'mbei g a bit thick lol. TIA

Welcome to the forum @ChrissyW 🙂

95 grams of cooked rice doesn’t sound like a huge amount divided into 4 portions to me, so I suspect @Inka is right.

The recipe I found doesn’t include a reference to rice - https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/recipes/tray-baked-salmon-and-vegetables

I guess it would depend how sensitive you are to brown rice. I find brown basmati is pretty well behaved and matches my insulin action nicely. We tend to aim for 60g-ish of carbs per portion which is 75g of dried rice, which cooks up to approx 140-150g when the water soaks in.

So my guess would be 40-45g of carbs in the rice at 95g cooked weight (I prefer weighing the dry ingredients!), plus approx 10g of carbs in a quarter of the Salmon / veg bake? (mostly the tomatoes I expect)

Edit: I found the 7-day meal planner, and can understand why you were confused! I will feed this pack to the content team 🙂

It’s on the Planner (Monday Dinner):

I think the confusion is that the recipes are sometimes for multiple people but the Planner is for an individual? The nutritional info on the planner seems to be for a single person/portion.

Thanks @Inka

Yes I found it in the meantime, and I’m sure you are right. The planner looks a bit tight for space, I wonder if they just didn’t have room to put ‘per person’ in all the boxes on the PDF?

Hi @ChrissyW 🙂 You’re not being thick at all. It is a bit unclear. However, having had a look I’d say the 95g cooked rice is per person.

Perhaps @everydayupsanddowns or @Cherrelle DUK can confirm that for you and how the planner is laid out/worked out.
Aww thank you so much. Will look at the links. Having cooked 75grams of rice I weighed it was about 400 grams so Id say its for four servings? .itseems a lot for one person.

Thank you so much. I cooked 75g of basmati then weighed it. Seemed a lot but thanks fir that info. I am not diabetic but gained so much weight going from one diet to another over the years. It's going to hopefully be preventative measures fir me.

It would be more helpful to have the rice weight uncooked rather than cooked. It makes cooking hard because you don’t know how much uncooked rice to cook so that it makes the 95g of cooked rice per person.

The Meal Planners and recipes are useful though @ChrissyW I’ve made a few of the recipes and like having the meals all planned out like that because it saves thinking!

I find that cooked rice seems to be roughly double the weight of the uncooked rice (though the frustrating thing, of course is that it depends how much water is absorbed).

I suspect they mean you to cook approx 45-50g dry weight?

Confused that you got it to 400g cooked weight @ChrissyW ?! They only intended 95g per portion, and as you say 400g is a huge amount! Did something go weird with your scales when weighing the uncooked rice?

Lol not the scales...my eyesight. Well I have enough rice to sink a battleship ha ha. All I need to know is how much cooked rice should I be behaving. Thanks for info much appreciated.

Why not try for a half portion - 100g of cooked rice and take it from there. If you see a big spike after, halve again, if not a flicker then up the quantity slightly next time.

100g is easiest to carb count too! 😉
