LifeScan, the manufacturer of OneTouch Verio Meters, has today announced a voluntary recall and replacement of its OneTouch Verio Pro, OneTouch Verio IQ, and OneTouch Verio Pro+ blood glucose meters.

At extremely high blood glucose levels of 56.8 mmol/L and above, the meters do not operate as intended. This could lead to incorrect treatment or delay proper treatment of extreme hyperglycemia, potentially resulting in serious injury.

The company announced the move on 25 March.

hmm thanks for the info, i was given a verio pro by nhs 6 months ago. I've left a message on that phone number given

Sheet, I'd die of FRIGHT if my BG was that high .....

I was going to say the same thing TW, don't need to worry about the meter not functioning at that level, I don't think I would be functioning!

56.8mmol? I can only associate this to my metre reading "HI" when I was a kid! (I think it went up to 30mmol or so... and after about 10 minutes).

I was 38 mmol/l when diagnosed, and practically comatose 😱

3 years in a row I'd see my BG around the 35 mark and I ended up spending a week at a time in hospital... Can you guess which week every year?? Christmas! Id hate too feel that badly again - So so ill.

Indeed. Once was more than enough for me! 😱

I have a verio pro. Apparently if you get a high reading it will subtract that amount from the reading so a 58 might show as a 4 or something.

They are sending me a new machine and hey-ho the strips I already have won't work with it.

I have a BG star that I can use till my new one arrives.

If the strips wont work in it then ask lifescan to replace the strips... They should without question do so and not expect the nhs to fund their error.

Thanks for the info Sue, I will be sure to take them up on this once new meter has arrived!

i was told i would received 50 strips of what ever works with the first replacement (which will be a "reconditioned old verio model") and i should then ask my doctors to change the prescription for strips to suit.

in a few months time i will apprently automatically receive a new verio iq as a premantant replacement, as verio pro were due to be phased out soon anyway (again just what i was told in the phone call to the helpline)

i think its been despatched already because i have a parcel waiting collection at the sorting office, just havent got there yet
