So, following today's events (and my blood sugar STILL dropping even though I haven't injected), I watched my BG rise after eating quite a bit and calculated what ratio that would put me on. It came out as 1 unit per 30g carbs. Is this a normal level? It seems a LOT less than I was previously told to be on. Honeymoon period aside...

On my Novorapid it works out about on average about 1 Unit to 10grams of carbs.. guessing obviously can vary depending on person etc. It's all very new to me but this is what I was told to work it on...

I am not on Insulin but what I have read people often have different ratios for different times of the day.

Hi Anthaas. I've read on here they often start a person who has T1 on 1 unit to 10 carbs, so your insulin ratio is extremely low.
It could be the honeymoon period, it certainly sounds as though your pancreas has become rather too enthusiastic.
What basal are you on and how many units do you give yourself

Do not worry if your ratios are different from those of other people. W are all different a pond there is no correct carb ratio. I was on a much lower dose of insulin in the early stages due to the honeymoon period and then it crept up over the years. It would be worth checking with your DSN if you are uncertain.

This forum makes me paranoid about my basal dose because its bizarrely low (and its definitely not the honeymoon period for me!!) You just have to go with whatever works for you. Also, if your diet is heavy on the veg, it's not unusual to need a lower bolus.

You need what you need. My current basal insulin requirements are zero and even at that fasting tests show a tendency for my levels to fall
It can be such an individual condition.

Im on 11 currently, although Im due to inject around now and I don't know what amount to go with. 11 is clearly far too high. Im on Lantus.

Well you can be reasonable and do 10u or daring and try 9u.

Though I do normally err extremely on the side of caution - and tell everyone else to be cautious too - have to say with what's happening to you - I'd be very tempted to try 9 !

I went with caution and did 10. The thing is, I haven't injected all day with what I've eaten, and I'm finding it hard to stay above 5!

More lucozade and chocolate later, Im at 6.0 - I should be, according to the carbs I've taken in, at around 13.0!

I take 1 unit for 4 carbs. My consultant says this is ok as it keeps me in the right bg numbers. I am almost embarrassed to say how much I take, but it takes what it takes.

There's absolutely no need to be embarrassed! Insulin is insulin. It doesn't matter what anybody else takes. Some people are sensitive and may be on a ratio of 1:25 and others may resistant and be on a ratio of 1:1.

As long as your insulin ratio works for you, that's all that matters 🙂

It is difficult when results and amounts of insulin don't seem to make sense, but as others have said, do what you need to do. (Who thought it was a good idea to call this the Honeymoon Period!)

Not entirely sure how you can calculate what your BS should be as you are taking Lantus & Rapid. Unless you have not had any Rapid in which case your Lantus dose is too high.
My current ratio is 1u rapid for 20g carbs for lunch & evening meal, but anything from 1u:10g to 1u:15g in the morning so it appears I am quite insulin sensitive but more resistant in the mornings. And I have 16u Lantus every evening.
Now waiting on results of a c-peptide test to see if my honeymoon is over...

PS As you have two threads open that are both very similar it might be worth putting in a comment and pointing everyone in the direction of one of them

Exactly that - I hadn't taken any Novorapid.

I never got the results of my anti-gad test when in hospital.

I can only apologise for the similarity, I saw them as two distinct conversations - one asking what people's ratios were, and the other asking for advice regarding my constantly dropping levels.

No problem matey, I can fully sympathise with you as it's all new all very alien at the moment.
You mentioned your BG was sitting at about 6.8ish this morning, how have your levels been throughout the day?

They are at 5.3 now - so they are still going down, but nowhere near as fast.

That is sounding like a good reading Anthaas. Well done.

Normally it would be, but as I said, they are still going down constantly, just not as fast as yesterday. I'll keep an eye - yesterday was horrible though - they'd been going down a lot through the day for a while, but not as fast as yesterday or as hard to get back up again.
