I got 7 out of 7!!!

What terrible advice -
Snacking between meals helps - TRUE? because it stops you getting a hypo - I've never had a hypo, nor am I likely to as I'm type 2.
Sugar-free or no added sugar foods are a great choice - FALSE? Well, it's a better choice than the sugar-filled and added-sugar foods.

I got the sugar free one wrong, because I was thinking it's better to eat, say, sugar free jelly than full sugar, whereas they meant, just because it doesn't have sugar, it might have other carbs. Trick question!

Hehe! That's the one I got 'wrong' 😱 The question is imprecise - I can snack if I want to, but it would need to be carb-free or entail extra insulin. I certainly don't snack to avoid hypos - that's what is commonly known as 'feeding the insulin' and means you are not on the correct doses, either basal or perhaps if you are on mixed insulin, which hardly anyone should be these days. As you rightly say, unless you are on certain medications you don't need to 'top up' your glucose levels as you're not going to have hypos 🙄

Otherwise I didn't think the advice was too bad and did explode a couple of myths 🙂

Seeing as you always quote and comment when I post. I thought I would reciprocate. Sugar free are advised against because they are expensive and also have a laxative effect. Hypoglycaemia and indeed Hyperglycaemia are not just diabetic related complications and not unique to insulin. LCHF is not the only option, there are other alternatives are equally effective and possibly kinder to other organs within the body. The advice is sound for diabetics, so is not terrible. Snacking does not just stop hypo's. It also helps to even out BM by giving small amounts of energy frequently, rather than loading it up 2 or 3 times a day. Please take time to think and research before firing off an opinion.

I often find even if I am highish but due to eat , I am often lower 2 hours post meal.

I'm not interested in any kind of flame war with you. Quoting and commenting is not a personal attack, we're here to have a discussion.

Sugar-free and reduced sugar do not imply artificial sweeteners nor expense. I buy reduced sugar orange juice and it's the same price as normal and has no sweeteners. Nor does artificial sweetener necessary have a laxative effect - for some people some sweeteners maybe. I find normal amounts perfectly fine. Snacking during the day is one of the main reasons people gain weight. It might be good for Type 1s, but the quiz didn't specify it was just for type 1s.

Would love to see some citations for research on LCHF being unkind to one's organs. High blood sugar from high carbs certainly is unkind on the kidneys, heart, eyes, pancreas, brain and one other organ - that's well-established.

Then stop causing friction. Think about what you say and stay off my posts unless you have something constructive that is not fuelled by your own opinions and subjective knowledge

Cool things down please @Owen and @ChrisSamsDad. Please don't make personal comments about each other and avoid inflammatory language - any posts I see of that nature will be deleted. Nothing wrong with constructive debate, but no personal jibes.

It really depends on what is meant by 'sugar-free'. Grilled chicken is 'sugar-free' and I'd say that's a pretty good choice for people with diabetes who choose to eat meat. I suspect what the question really needs is a qualifier along the lines of 'sugar-free versions of sugary products'.

Although again that's convoluted, for instance, I buy sugar-free cranberry juice, which doesn't contain laxative-causing sweeteners (ie. no polyols) and I'm struggling to see how this is a bad choice.

I think if anything, this exercise tells us that diet and diabetes is a hugely complex subject that cannot be simply handled through 7 questions on a shop's website.

To be honest I think a break from this forum might be a good idea Alan. Everything I seem to post recently is followed by a quote from @ChrisSamsDad and contradiction. Probably because I once challenged LCHF. I did not realise that anyone that did not agree 100% with LCHF, Atkins and every other FAD, would leave themselves this open. I will just get on with my life, carry on with #Team999 and look for a forum that allows alternative opinions without fear of being targeted for breaking any paradigms.

I'd suggest using the 'Ignore' option @Owen. Like any large community anywhere there are bound to be differences of opinion and/or personality clashes. Remember my 'It takes all sorts' post - things often look different in text.

I'm simply not saying personal things about you, and you're posting your opinions, I'm posting mine. You go on to say I'm posting contradictions to almost everything you say, but that's not true either - you've posted plenty of posts that I've no interest in. I'm arguing with you, but I disagree it's in any way other than constructive and non-personal. I responded to your post about LCHF/Atkins back in November, but that's about it.

You were the one who responded to my posting here Owen - and that sounded to me like it was a personal comment - "Seeing as you always quote and comment when I post. I thought I would reciprocate."

I got 2 wrong though imo they weren't, the sugar free one, personally I see nothing wrong in me having a couple of sweeteners in my coffee or a suitable sweetener in cooking and the snacking one, I normally only snack if I'm hungry or decided to be naughty which of course I never am IMG_0159.GIF , it's never to preempt a hypo I'd adjust my insulin

I got 7/7, wasn't going to bother doing it but thought hey why not haha x

Thanks @Northerner - a bit of fun and actually quite informative and accurate too - if one doesn't try to get too smart and tangled with 'ifs' and 'buts'.
The only one I fell down on was selecting vitamin D instead of salt and that was because I didn't really read and think before jumping. 😳

I got 5 out of 7. I got the last one wrong as if I'm spiking I miss a meal. Usually because I've previously eaten too much of the wrong thing so deserve to miss it!

Guess I'm either a bad diabetic or the authors have no concept of my style of BG management

My mark was so terrible I better not tell you! I got the first one wrong, the dessert looked full of sugar and I would never eat it!
