Sorry guys me again ... Now puddings 🙂
I pretty much have a small variety of things to eat for breakfast, lunch n dinner that suit the pregnant me but what I'm struggling with is a good low carb non spike pudding, I use to like to have something sweet after my lunch at work, cereal bar, ww cake or jaffas but now I'm struggling to find something to curb that sweet kick. I have yoghurt and apples but I didn't know if anyone knew of a nice biscuit or cake that might work with out spiking the sugars?

Thanks guys, This diabetic pregnancy lark ain't easy :D

Muller light - big enough to feel like you've eaten something!

If you have time to prepare this, it's lovely: put a generous portion of natural fat-free fromage frais OR Total 0% fat Greek yogurt in a mixing bowl. Stir in some granulated sweetener to taste and a few drops of real vanilla essence. Finely chop whatever fruit you fancy and stir in. If you can resist tucking in immediately, put it in a small plastic container. Don't forget to take a spoon!

If it's a biscuity thing you're after, most of the Alpen Light bars come in under 12g carbs.

I like Nakd bars - different varieties have more carbs but the gingerbread and pecan pie varieties are about 12g. They're made of mixed nuts and dried fruit, no cereal so are fairly low GI.

Weight watchers fromage frais are nice too, about 7g carbs.

How about a fresh cream finger eclaire - roughly 10g carbs and the cream probably stops any spikes. My little one can get away with these as a treat without any probs 🙂

One of my friends gets a couple of digestive biscuits, spread a little olive of sunflower spread on them and then arranges segments from a manadrine or satsuma (or any small citrus fruit) on top, and for an extra treat there is sometimes a galce cherry

A couple of pieces of very dark chocolate (the 85% stuff). This is particularly the case if you miss a chocolatey pudding type thing - once you've had a square of very dark chocolate, you tend not to want any more.

I think Linddt do a good one in a white packet, 70% ranges through to 90% they are cetainly bitter, but settle my choc cravings, like Dues says only need a square or two and then you dont want any more!

The only way for me to keep chocolate and other temptation in the house is to store it out of sight in the freezer. I make sure I've eaten something substantial before buying, then as soon as I'm home divide into single portions, wrap each bit in cling film and freeze.

I keep a stock of the colorless freeze pops variety of flavours , funnily enough in the freezer. They can make a good treat, maybe not so much when its cold

Sugar-free jellies 🙂 Hartleys do twin packs of powder that each make up 5 125ml jellies for about 50p. I use old yoghurt pots to make them in. 🙂

Oh wait, got it!

Sugar free jelly - I always have some of this in house as a general snacking food anyway. May be slightly more difficult if it's an 'at work' thing but there are sugar free jellies out there that you can make at home and don't need refrigerating - you could make them in little sealable pots and take to work, or I'm sure Rowntree's do off-the-shelf jelly pots, some of which are sugar-free.

EDIT: Looks like Northerner had the same idea at the same time I was typing!

Hi Everyone, thanks for all the ideas, i have sugar free jelly on tap in the fridge as its more of my evening pudding and i have some dark chocolate in there too but like you say i can only manage 1-2 small pieces.

i have today bought a fresh cream eclair and halfed it as i dont want to turn into a fatty - i know its inevitable being pregnant an all 🙄 but im trialing it so will be testing my blood in 2 hours to see how its doing was 5.4 before dinner so we'll see.

I wanted more of a pudding to eat at work as i have more time to do jellies and fruit/yoghurt mixtures at home so was looking for more on the go fixes. I did eat a little biscuit earlier, i dont know the name but it was half the size of my palm and was flaky pastry with a dot of jam in the middle. i injected 1 unit and after 2 hours my blood went from 5.0 to 5.4 so they might be worth getting for a kick 🙂

will let you know how the eclair goes :D

Belvita biscuits are quite nice - 8.5g carbs per biscuit and I have found that they don't spike me at all 🙂

well at 3pm my blood is at 11.0 :( i just cant seem to win

Ive experimented with using almond flour to make my own biscuits and brownies (Yes - I am the modern man) to sort my chocolate / cake fix and although they arnt as tasty although they are nice enough (Apart from some cookie / brownie weird mix I made where i inteded on making cookie but misread the information and didnt cook for long enough and then dropped them and they were just then small chunks of lovely brownie type things - Which I cant seem to replicate grrr) They dont spike me as they are low carbs, but quite high in fat, so the little carb thats in them seems to have no effect and no delayed spike.

Maybe worth a try?

It's not 'cakey' but I'm quite partial to blueberries (particularly if they're a little bit sour). They don't seem to affect my BG much at all but of course, everyone reacts differently.

Another thing that also sorts out a sweet-taste craving is a glass of squash - sometimes I'll have a glass of strong sugar-free Ribena (HAS to be Ribena!) instead of a dessert and that seems to work fine for me.

Blackberries and Raspberries I can get away with too

dark chocolate

I always go for dark chocolate that i love😛 Be careful though and check for carbs but some are quite high in carbs. the good one has around 30g per 100g so you can eat half of it without any harm.
Ive just started cooking blog and put there chocolate brownie receipe. it quite save to eat (in moderation of course) so you can try it. Enjoy 🙂
