Just been to my local Asian store and noticed packets of ispaghula powder, aka psylium powder. A quick Surf shows that it is a dietary fibre or bulking agent, similar, I presume, to bran.

Has anyone used it, or know anything else about it?

I know Fybogel. I didn't notice the price of the ispaghula powder in the Asian shop, but I'm sure it must be cheaper than posh boxed Fybogel

Is slurrying it up in a drink the only way to consume it, or can you add it to soups & stews as for bran?

You can eat it any way you like, sprinkled on things, dissolved in water (dissolved is not the ideal way to describe what happens when added to water really...suspended in water maybe), mixed into hot food. The important thing is it only does its job when you are properly hydrated, it expands when hydrated and aledgedly improves gut motility. It was recommended to me for IBS years ago, as it turned out it was useless aside from highlighting that I'm sensitive to fibre 🙄 a lot of digestive supplements contain the stuff so it must work for some people.
