Hi everyone
I was diagnosed as T1 a coupe of weeks ago and my bf levels have come down, sitting between 6 and 10 most of the time, with the odd spike after eating where I'm on the learning curve with getting my bolus right...

I got new glasses at the beging on June and I am really struggling to read small type, I know some people have said that their prescription changed after getting treatment etc, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with this - do I wait and see if it improves or should I go back to Specsavers and get my eyes tested again? Also has anyone had experience with opticians getting lenses changed, is it expensive as I have just paid a couple of hundred pounds for my new glasses and can't really afford the shell out that much again!

Thanks!

People often do experience changes in vision when their blood glucose starts to come down and if you said to Specsavers that you were newly diagnosed diabetic they should have really advised you not to rush into a new prescription as your vision can change. You may be lucky to get them to change them or you may find it better to wait to get new ones but still go back to report the situation.
It has taken my eyes 7 months to get back to anything like normal, it was my near vision I was struggling with. Again I avoided going to the optician as my prescription is usually £600 or more.

I was blissfully unaware of my diagnosis when I got the new glasses, it was just my routine 2 year review... I guess it's best to wait a few months to see how things settle down before going back to the opticians... Though I did think I may be able to swing a free set of new lenses if I went back now and gave them a bit of a sob story

I would certainly go and speak to them and ask...

It maybe they ask you to wait a little bit longer to see if your eyes settle back down, or perhaps they may recheck and replace the lenses for you. But would say you need to speak to them asap..

I have certainly heard it has only been because of an optician visit that people have been advised to go to the GP or even A &E and been diagnosed with very high blood glucose.

Imo it’s worth speaking to specsavers and explaining the situation, they worst they can only say no lol.

My eyes went very blurry within days of starting insulin . It took a few weeks before I noticed any improvement.

You might find some cheapo reading glasses say from the pound shop helps

No harm in going back to Specsavers. Your eye tests are free now you have been diagnosed (as are all of your prescriptions from the doc) and if your lenses are standard with no fancy coatings or varilux then they don’t cost very much. They won’t mind doing a retest because your freebie gets them paid.

I had the same at Specsavers. But my eyesight had changed by the time i went back to collect my specs. I got my money refunded and told to come back when my eyesight had settled down. They have a money back guarantee. This may be something you can mention and have a word to see if this applies to you as it's not been long.
My eyes have taken many months to settle down and so i wasn't in the same situation again i have worn the cheap reading glasses of varying strengths to see me through when my eyesight was not right and still changing.
I have just found this on their website so looks like you may be ok to have adjusted or or refunded ....

Can I return products if I am not happy with them?

Answer:
Yes, we want you to be completely happy with your purchase at Specsavers. If you have any concerns within 100 days of the date of purchase, we will put it right. No quibble, no fuss.

Hi all
Thanks for the responses and advice! I'll give specsaver a quick call and see what they recommend I do...

Let us know how you get on. Hopefully get a refund or replacement lenses if you think your vision has now settled down. I think i would give it a while longer yet if it has changed in the last month.
