When the DF was with me I started taking a course of enormous pink pills - rifaximin, an antibiotic that kills on contact rather than being absorbed into the blood stream. They were to kill the bacteria that have been partying in my gut and causing vast quantities of gas (to put it politely:D). They've certainly done their job, but I've now come to end of the course. The only way for the medics to decide what to do next is for me to keep eating normally and see if or when the gas returns. I have a feeling the gas will return quite soon, so if you see a UFO in the sky, it's probably me floating off into the stratosphere. It would be good to get it sorted before Christmas, but I'm not holding my breath (which is probably a good idea, come to think of it😛).

I hope it's worked as well Susan. Sending a ball of string just in case so you can anchor yourself.

Are they something you can take long term if the problem returns Susan? Antibiotics that kill on contact sound seriously ferocious ! 😱

How kind and thoughtful:D
My GP talked about them sterilising my gut 😱 and there is a thought that I may need a .... wait for it (seriously gross😱) faecal implant😛:D What I want to know is who would donate their poo for this🙄

Ferociously expensive I suspect!😱

I hope you find some relief. I have heard charcoal tablets and peppermint capsules help with wind, but it is probably best to chat with your GP or pharmacist before trying anything new.

I need something more heavy duty 'cos of my lack of stomach acid. The bugs in my gut party big time 😱

What about probiotics?

Have been taking the pills for a couple of days and have just sunk my teeth into a slice of Lidl low GI bread toast 🙂. You have no idea how lovely it tastes after months of no real bread. :D Hopefully the pills will do their work and I wont be suffering later today! The lentil soup with the toast will be quite a test too!

I know a 'faecal transplant' sounds gross Susan but they're incredibly effective by all accounts.
It's a subject that crops up a lot on the leukaemia forum because of our tendency towards gut problems.

Hope you get some relief soon. Must be unpleasant and bloating for you.

A faecal transplant is on the cards. What I want to know is - who donates their poo? :D

My poor brain/body is very confused by what's on the menu, as it has changed suddenly several times lately. Hopefully I can now concentrate on a healthy diet for a diabetic and not complicate things with anything else!

🙂 I have no idea who donates their poo Susan but apparently it comes from 'a tested donor' to eliminate any issues before the transplantation. So it's not a simple as asking someone on the ward if they could help out! Lol
