Type 1
My 16 year old is a type one pumper and has been having trouble in the mornings for a long time now - If woken early ie before 8am she suffers sickness, headaches and generally feeling unwell. Left to sleep in till later and she can get up feeling almost 'normal'

Many tests have been done with no results until recently her doctor checked her blood for cortisol and her levels were way high, a second test proved to be the same. We have just completed a 24 hour urine test and Dexamethasone Test has been done this evening ready for more blood tests at 9am in the morning.

I have been told that if these too come back high then the next step is to have scans of her head and kidneys.

She takes no medication that could cause this so I of course am going out of my mind with worry, I am so scared but know I may need to be strong for my child.

Please if anyone has type one and cushing's syndrome and can help me by giving me some advice I would be so very very grateful.

Kindest regards
A petrified sleepless mum

Hi Emma,

I don't have experience of Cushing's syndrome but just wanted to welcome you to the forum and sympathise with your worries. My son is type 1 too, and also has additional problems with proteinuria, so has been having investigations into his kidney function, so I understand completely how awful it is to be faced with yet another medical problem, as though type 1 on it's own wasn't bad enough :(

Hope the scans go well and there is an easy treatment option. xx

Hi Emma and welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear you have all this extra worry with your daughter. I found this http://www.medicinenet.com/cushings_syndrome/page2.htm so hope it's of some help to you.
Having extra steroid in the body tends to make you bounce so I'm surprised at your daughters symptoms.
It could be just a case of the Drs covering every avenue they can but also unfortunately frightening the life out of you in the process :( Hope what ever the problem it's soon fixed.

Welcome to the forum, Emma_s27.

Your type 1 pumping daughter is also very welcome to join here.
