A friend has given me these and advised to steam.
Doe anybody know what they taste like or if they are suitable for diabetics?
Would be grateful for some advice

Hi Millicent, welcome to the forum.

They taste a bit like bananas but not as sweet. Never had them since I joined the diabetes club, so do what you always do with unfamiliar foods - have a go, and let us know🙂

You could be first in a new superfood trend😎

When I spent some time in Puerto Rico in the Caribbean, the plantain was very popular, I have never tried it steamed the popular way of cooking it over there was to slice it and fry it, it's not sweet like a banana. But like mikeyB I have not tried it since being in the diabetic club.🙂

Here in Spain plantains and green bananas are very popular and are generally fried alongside fish. Tried them once and enjoyed very much their taste and texture BUT my blood sugar readings went sky high - so, unfortunately, never again. Sigh.

Green Bananas, you boil them, they are quite nice. Plantains...still love to slice them and fry them from time to time. Love my fried plantains

They are starchy fruits - and high carb.
