Hi all -did someone say they had a pizza express carb list -if so how can I get one? Also chinese takeaways how do people carb count them-there are only afew dishes in the carbs and cals book-thanks all-the weekend is looming and i'm all cooked out

I'd check the restaurants website for 'proper' nutritional info prom a particualr company.

As for Chinese, you'd need to watch for sugar in sauces (eg avoid sweet & sour) and just use a visual 'guestimation' for mixed dishes (chow mein).

Portions are likely to be massive. Separate rice could be weighed I guess.

Watch the fat content for takeaways too - it will delay the absorption of the carbs by quite a bit. You might need to split the dose, some before some and hour or two after eating (or dual/square wave on a pump) to spread the insulin activity.

OMG that sounds mighty complicated:I suddenly feel way out of my depth

Nah! Easy peasy 🙂

Once you get used to what a usual portion looks like on a plate it's easy enough to make an educated guess. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! Best bet is to throw in a few tests after the meal to check how things are toddling along, and not to be surprised if the breakfast reading the day after is a bit high.

Pizza is notorious for delayed absorption... split doses can work really well to prevent a hypo after the meal followed by a later high when the carbs finally show up!

If you've not done much take-away experimentation before it can help to write things down, dishes... how much of the pizza/portion were eaten etc so that you can build up your experience next time.

Hi, if it is a one off, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Have a look at the pizzas in the supermarket and get an idea of the range of carbs you are looking at and then have an educated guess. In waitrose and sainsburys they sell pizza express pizzas - not identical to the restaurant ones obviously but might be worth a look. If it is something you do regularly, make a note of how much you took and the blood test results before and after so that you can use it as a starting point next time.

As for the chinese, weigh out the rice or use the pics in the carbs and cals book for a starting point and then take into acount the sauces - a bit of estimation is in order. But enjoy and don't worry too much, you will soon work out how much to take when you eat certain foods out just by trial and error

I feel like i havn't got a clue what i'm doing!
