Pill shape - oval or round?

I have a problem swallowing round pills and my GP has put a note on my prescription to supply oval shaped Metformin pills. I don't mind which company supplies the medication, but lately the pharmacy has told me they cannot order a specific product. I've read that oval shaped pills are easier to swallow so why are not all pharmaceutical companies producing them? No wonder people, whether diabetic or not, often refuse medication.

I take my metformin with a spoonful of yoghurt instead of water and it slides down easily whatever shape .

Not totally true my Slow Release Metformin has been prescribed as a specific brand for a number of years,

For paracetamol, I much prefer the rounded cylinder ‘caplets’ rather than either round ones, or (weirdly) capsules, which i find turn to glue on contact with saliva.

Lots of other capsules hardly seem to notice, but oval is definitely my perference!
