Thanks for the info Donald, looks interesting. My only concern is, if it remains in the meter, then I assume there will not be a new chip in every box of strips, so what happens if the one you have becomes faulty.

John.

FAQ on the link David provided:

15. What happens if I lose or throw away my black activation chip when they are no longer included with the test strips?

You can call the Accu-Chek Customer Careline 0800 701 000 (UK), 1 800 709 600 (Ireland) to get a replacement activation chip.

On the other hand I stopped using mine ages ago and now I can't find it, got some white chips though.

Why would it? - it can't get damaged, can it? And surely, if you have X boxes of strips at a time they will most likely be from the same batch, in which case, the other boxes will also have a black chip.

You can get another from Roche, but that doesn't help if you haven't got a back-up meter - so what I think I'll do, is start stashing black chips as soon as I get any. A couple, anyway.

Good Idea they will just keep them with your stuff

Yes and you know what will happen too don't you?

We'll all save em and after a year when we have a million, we'll go, 'This is ridiculous!' and sling the lot.

Which is exactly when ........ LOL

(Still never mind, I shall ring Karen when I do that and whizz over there for one of hers - and hope she'll feel free to do the same with me!)

My guess is that the chip is only be to keep the meters happy (and that they must have changed the strips to no longer need calibration).
