I've been reading that nuts are a good idea for a little snack, what sort of nuts do you think are best, I read somewhere that pecans are good for lowering cholesterol, I have had a few a couple of hours ago and just done a BG reading at it was 13.1 😱

should I change to a humbler little nut like the peanut? I'm not really a snacker but just on the odd occasion feel like a nibble.... know what I mean?

Peanuts are OK, also sunflower seeds, almonds, hazelnuts. Some of the best nuts are walnuts because of the beneficial oils they contain. 🙂

I'd be surprised if the pecans were the cause of your high levels - do you know what your levels were before you ate them. Nuts are relatively low carb, but quite high calorie as the contain quite a lot of fat - but it is the 'good' type of fat. 🙂

My BG was 6.5 before dinner at 5.30pm, I had veg meat pie, a few boiled potatoes, runner beans a peas. do you think it was the pie??

Could have been the pastry in the pie which led to a late spike, as the fat in the pastry would have slowed the digestion of the meal.

I'll remember that, as I am still on mixed insulin I don't get much choice of what I can or can't eat, until I get to change to MDI in april (Yay!)

I can't stop nibbling on almonds, walnuts, brazil and hazel nuts. Hopefully i'll get bored of them soon as I need to cut out the nibbling between meals.

OOh I have been snacking on nuts since last year with some cheeses I think this is why I have gained 7lb since last March as my diet is mostly the same otherwise since DX Jan 2010 no more nuts and lumps of cheese for me:(

(almonds, walnuts, brazil all cheese even the blue)

Its walnuts for me! I also enjoy eating them with cheese in a salad or sandwich as I find they slow down the untake of the carbs. Sunflower and pumpkin seeds are good too, especially with dried fruit when I am needing the cards.

I don't think the pecans would have increased your sugar levels as I don't notice an effect when I snack on nuts - they should slow down sugar uptake if eaten with a meal I think - please correct me if I'm wrong someone!
