I had supermarket own brand chicken and chorizo paella - checked the carb amount on both nutracheck and the supermarkets own label - nutracheck was 51g of carbs and supermarkets own label was 61g - hubby said to go with supermarkets own label because they must know their own foods - what would you have gone with?

Supermarket, I agree with your husband. Did Nutracheck actually state Tesco/Morrisons/Aldi/ Lidl. Waitrose/ wherever chicken & prawn paella, or no brand?

I would think that something like Nutracheck cannot list every single brand of food and will be taking a generic figure so a best guess average but the supermarket information has to conform to an industry standard in the data on the packets. I'd go with that.
We have found a big difference in the carb value on tins of kidney beans depending on the brand so I would always go with what is on the tin.

Yes it does

There is the possibility that nutracheck have people who read labels and then enter them into their database for you to access. This means there could have been a transcription error (a typo to you and me) and the 51 should have been 61.

Or the supermarket's changed the recipe slightly since Nutracheck recorded it. Regardless, seems better to assume what's on the packet is correct. And anyway the two are close enough that it's not going to make that much difference.

Nutracheck does actually list all the exact brands and packaging size, so it does usually match the packaging. For example the picture shows just some of the tesco options, the finest one comes in two sizes so it has both. It has options for lots of different supermarkets too. The times it doesn’t match the packaging usually means the recipe was updated and you can either amend the nutrition info yourself or email customer services.

Thanks @Lucyr - on the nutracheck app I amended the carb info myself - but only carb info - I'm going to contact nutracheck to let them know about Tesco's nutritional info for this item.

A variation of 10g in a paella is nothing.
Thanks @travellor - what about any other foods ie where the variation would be nothing?

I emailed nutracheck - they asked me for photos of the front of the packaging, the bar code and the nutritional info - they are going to pass it onto their data team.

I meant for a good like paella, a variation of 10 g in a 100g would be common from packet to packet, and either figure could easily apply

Hello, also there are often multi weight amounts given IE Weetabix gives each biscuit total weight and then the carb weight of each biscuit, can be confusing.
Also another tip if you are an Iphone techy person just type into a search engine your food item and weight asking for its carbs and it will show you.

Best

When I've noticed a difference between two carb amounts, I've sometimes found that the supermarket has sneakily reduced the size of the packet (hidden price rise!). I would think that scanning the barcode gives you more chance of getting the right figure than using the search facility, though I've never tested this out.

Yes packaging change, recipe change or transcription error seem the most likely. Either way I would suggest going by the packet wherever possible.
