I have no clue how they do this but my numbers gone up by 3, my diabetic nurse has given me till july then i will have to go on medication, (thats when my year review is up) reading a lot of posts here, and dont feel im getting support form the nurses, basically its of you go cut out carbs sweets ect eat healthy ect..
so started slimming world, cout way down on carbs cut out sweets crisps biscuits,(not that i ate much) i dont really drink, so scratching my head here as to why its gone up, and not told to do blood sugars either....#confused , i have wholemeal bread, rice pasta full fat milk, lowfat or fat free yogurts,
any advice or suggestions most welcome
thank you 🙂

I'm glad your DN is giving you the opportunity to make some changes before putting you on medication. I'd like to make a couple of suggestions which might help you work out which foods might be causing your glucose to rise.
I think you should keep a food diary - everything you eat or drink. I do this with an app (easiest option for me). It requires you to measure your portion sizes - no guesstimating. I keep digital scales and a clear glass bowl on my kitchen worktop, and it just takes a couple of minutes. It will record your cals and carbs by meal, day and week. A spreadsheet or pen and paper works just as well but will involve looking up the back of packets and writing up, as well as measuring, so takes a bit longer.
Then I would suggest you get a blood glucose monitor and measure your blood glucose immediately before eating and 2 hours after first bite. Ignore the advice you don't need to monitor. If you don't know where you are now, how can you improve? That way you can compare your blood glucose rise with what you have eaten to see what foods push up your glucose levels. The Gluco Navil or Spirit TEE 2 is available on line Amazon or similar. The cheapest lancets are about £8 for 50. You should be looking for a start of around 4-5.5 mmol/l with a rise of 2-3mmol/l after 2 hours, to a maximum of 8.5mmol/l (if I've got this wrong I'm sure someone will correct me).
I found after a couple of weeks I soon learned what portion sizes should be and what foods I needed to avoid. Now I just test for new food, but I still plan daily on my app even after 5 years since diagnosis. I also sought alternatives to the foods that affected me, such as using cauliflower rice, edamame bean pasta, squash wedges for chips. Now my plate is 1/2 to 2/3 vegetables with a protein source.
Every body is different, so what causes big rises for some might not for others. For example, I can manage a medium slice from a 400gm wholemeal loaf or about 100gm new boiled potatoes, but I can't take rice, pasta, and surprisingly, apples.
Best wishes

I think your problem is probably the bread, rice and pasta unless they are minute portions, no need for low fat .
Plenty of other lower carb accompaniments to your meals based on meat, fish, eggs, cheese, veg ad salads and fruit like berries.
Keeping a food diary would be useful as would getting a blood glucose monitor so you can check out the effect of your meals on blood glucose.
Have a look at this link for some ideas on modifying your meals. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Monitors have an allowable 15% accuracy so not bad for a cheap piece of kit.
How long after eating your bar did you test as it looks as if they are only 9g ish carbs each so I would be surprised if after 2 hours it would have had that much impact.

Hi @Adele21
If I am looking up the right bars it looks like they are between 9 and 11 carbs so would make your BG rise a bit. Is it caffeinated or decaf coffee? Caffeine can spurn the body into action which may account for a bit more too. I switched to decaf coffee & tea after seeing caffeine didn't help my BG levels.

ahh thank you, no caffeinated, fresh ground, thanks, i dropped down too to within normal, according to the chart that came with it, for now im doing before meals then a couple hours after, and writing things down what i have,
