Hi I was diagnosed about 7 years ago and have been on insulin for nearly 3 years and am very overweight (sadly) my BMI is 38, in spite of this I do quite a bit of exercise, as I have two dogs we walk a lot.
I have recently been prescribed Dulaglutide weekly injections with a view to coming off insulin and getting the weight off pushing me into remission. I have used the first pen this week and notice a substantial loss of appetite and a significant lowering of my blood sugar levels. I have adjusted my injections but still find my blood sugars are below 5.0 for most of the day.
I guess my questions are twofold the first is how quickly do other people notice a change in their weight and by what proportion and secondly how quickly did people stop using insulin completely ?

Welcome to the forum @DianneS

i have no experience of the injections you are now using, but I am sure there will be others who have.

I can see why you are concerned with your levels running so low. Are you eating less as a result of your loss of appetite? Did you usually adjust your insulin in relation to the food you were eating, or were you on fixed doses?

It sounds like you need to have a chat with your Dr about adjusting/reducing your insulin doses.

You might find some clues in these threads

Thanks so much well last week I lost 6 lbs and am gradually reducing my insulin units to keep my BS levels ok. Looking at the weeks reading the average was 5.1 that’s based on 4 readings per day many of which were actually below 5. I’ve used the second weeks jab and do experience a slight feeling of nausea as per the expected side effects. I guess it’s the devil and deep blue sea idea. I would love to go into remission and need to work alongside the medication to achieve that..... and to some degree put up with what are fairly minor side effects. Ever since I have been on insulin I’ve carried juice and a biscuit if I’m driving, just means I need to be a bit more vigilant. I feel very supported by the kind messages in this site so thank you all xx

Since my last post I’ve lost 71/2 lbs. I’m about to start the second month of the weekly injections, I have reduced my morning insulin by 50% and my evening on by about 30%. I keep a close eye on the lunchtime BSG levels as it can go down to 3.9. My diabetic consultant nurse says she is hopeful I can be off insulin completely by the end of the next month as she has doubled the dosage of the dulaglutide injections. Will keep you all posted!! Btw the nausea has largely stopped too.

Congratulations on your fantastic progress! So pleased the side effects have worn off too as that must have been unpleasant. Good luck with your next goal and look forward to reading that you have achieved it.

That‘s great news @DianneS - long may it continue!
