Hello, very newly diagnosed and still reeling
One thing I would like to ask, is shloer ok to drink or is it high in sugar please ?
 
Hello Broady62 shloer has about just under 5 grams of carbs for 31/2 oz, so for me I wouldnt drink it
you dont say what your results are with regard to your blood sugars ? if you post those you will get
lots of support from the members reducing carbs is a key to your good health xx

Welcome @Broady62 Are you on medication? If I were you, I’d go with a diet drink or sparkling water.
 
Schloer has 5g carb per 100ml in the regular one and 3g in the light one. So one small 200ml glass of regular schloer has 10g carbs, for context thats about the same as one chocolate digestive but because schloer is a liquid it will be absorbed more quickly and send your blood sugar up more quickly than a chocolate digestive. If you're particularly fond of it then okay, allow yourself the occasional glass, but if you're drinking it because you think it's a better choice than something else, i wouldn't bother.

What kind of things do you enjoy drinking - would it normally be schloer you like or something else?

I’ve been put on meds to see how things go
And told to modify my diet of course
I was only diagnosed on Friday gone , Dr called me in urgently after routine blood tests
I knew something was wrong with me ( numerous odd symptoms ) but at least I now know, and can fight it
Hope everyone is as well as can be

As for drinks then zero sugar diet drinks, sparkling or still flavoured water or if you want alcoholic drinks then spirits with diet mixers, dry wine red or white are ok in moderation. But alcohol can affect how your body is reacting to any carbs.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but glad you have found the forum.

It’s perfectly understandable and natural to feel knocked completely sideways by your diabetes diagnosis, so be kind to yourself and give yourself time to adjust and adapt.

One of the biggest questions when trying to get to grips with your diabetes is often ‘what can I eat’ and while there are obvious things like cakes, biscuits, sweets and sugary drinks that you will want to cut out straight away, you might be surprised how much *all* carbohydrate affects your BG levels, including rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, pastry, grains, cereals and many fruits.

Many new members find it can be really helpful to keep a brutally honest food diary for a week or two. Note down everything you eat and drink, along with a reasonable estimate of the total carbohydrate content in your meals and snacks (not just ‘of which sugars’). It might sound like a bit of a faff, and will involve weighing portions, squinting at the fine print on packaging, and possibly looking up things on the internet, but it will give you a really good idea of which foods are the main sources of carbs in your menu.

Once you can see which meals or snacks are your ‘big hitters’, and where carbs might be unexpectedly lurking, the process might also suggest some likely candidates for swaps, portion reductions, or using lower carb alternatives (eg celeriac or swede mash, or cauli ‘rice’).

Keep firing away any questions you have as they crop up - nothing will be considered too obvious or ‘silly’ 🙂
