I have neuropathy in feet and legs, but this along with night times cramps,is a nightmare and very painful,i stagger instead of walk,as my muscles ar now weakening
My consultant suggested tonic water as she obviously thinks the quinine is still in it, but this is not a good idea for a diabetic who struggles with blood sugers.
Does anyone suffer the same and do you have any ideas as to what to do or take to help ? i prefer natural therapies,i already take alpha lipoic acid --any suggestions

I suffer with very severe night cramps and had a magnesium and Vit D test which showed me to be deficient in Vit D. I'm now on very high supplements from my GP and will have regular blood tests to monitor it. Those along with a small magnesium tablet I take have helped my night cramps. Not completely but nothing like as bad as they were. Also keep very well hydrated because taking plenty of water helps. Good luck.

My night cramps are now almost exclusively related to me eating too much carb before bedtime! Also, keeping well hydrated during the day helps me too.

When I do have cramps, getting up and sitting somewhere whilst drinking a herbal tea often helps me get back to bed with no further problems.

Andy 🙂

Thanks Amigo my doc says magnesium levels ok I will now ask if lacking in vit d some doctors not bothered to check deficienties and you're right drinking water is very important and I'm not good at it I will be making more of an effort -thanks

Hi Bluepoppy, welcome. Cramp is so painful.
You can get slimline Indian tonic water , it does have sweeteners in but no sugar and no carbohydrates.
I'm wondering if you are on Statins as they can cause cramps . I'm going to look up the NHS website for cramp and put a link here.
Here it is

There is quinine in tonic water (including diet versions with zero calories), so it might be worth a try, as the consultant has suggested it.

One possibility for help that doesn't involve tablets is a TENS machine. These can be very effective in muscle and nerve pain. Many GP practices have a TENS machine sitting in a cupboard for people to give it a try, so it's worth asking. (Hospital pain clinics certainly do). They only cost about £25 or so, but this is very much a try before you buy situation.

Thanks

Hi
I'm having similar problem, in myself I feel fine but I can not stand up of a chair etc without using my arms, I can only walk at a certain speed and can n longer jog/run or walk fast, after I have walked about 100m my legs start to ache and I get a tight muscle in my chest. the Dr has ruled out heart problems, m lungs are now fine (I had severe lung abcess in april) I'm back at dr's in morning for more test results. just want to be able to do exercise to keep fit.

Welcome to the forum, Bluepoppy.
If you're concerned you may be low in vitamin D levels, this is the time of year to expose skin to sunlight, without getting burned, of course. In fact, an evening walk, followed by an occasional outdoor gin and diet tonic water could help in many ways.

There is always a bottle of "Diet Tonic Water" in my fridge. Very cheap from Morrisons etc with either a hint of lemon or lime. Cant beat it on a hot day with ice 🙂 Good luck

Hi there
I keep a detailed food diary and have found that my night cramps are closely related to what I eat For me...too many carbs in the evening = cramps. If I avoid them I have a good night of unbroken sleep. I don't know if you keep a food diary, but it might be worth starting one, making a note of when you get cramps, and trying to work out whether there's a pattern.

Lidl were selling various medical devices recently, including a TENS machine! Might be worth a look.
