Hello everyone. I have experienced problems with my hands , burning, tingly sensation. It's normally at night. Saw the doctors who diagnosed carpel tunnel. Was given some splints to wear at night. During the summer months the pain went completely. Unfortunately the pain has come back over the last 3/4 weeks. Do you think the cold weather has anything to do with it? Is there anything I can do? Normally wakes me up at 3am and I am in agony 😡

Hi Ruby, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about the problems you are experiencing. It's interesting that the pain went in the summer months, so there does seem to be some correlation with the onset of colder weather. Have you been diagnosed long? Do you just get the pain in your hands, or are your feet also affected?

Thanks for the reply. I was diagnosed 4 years ago at 33. Up until today, it was only in my hands, but today I had a sharp , stabbing pain in my toes. I am taking insulin, and levels are normally under 10. Any help would be appreciated

What insulin are you on Ruby? Have you been on it long? There's a possibility that it could be neuropathy, but may be transient - many people experience problems (myself included) when levels have been higher than normal, or are improving.

Welcome to the boards, Ruby.

Assuming the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome is correct, then splints are the first line treatment, followed by steroid injections, and eventually surgery. So, best to go back to your GP and ask for further referral to consider further options.

Just to say do not be afraid of having surgery for your carpal tunnel.
I found it a fascinating experience as it is done under a local (no I did not feel any pain - only the sensation of the cutting of the ligament or whatever that causes the constriction. Seeing the inside of a proper operating theatre and the white boards on the walls detailing every swab, timing of tourniquet etc gave me more confidence. Usually you are completely out of it by the time you reach here. Also a nurse is by your head all the time talking to you. You can see nothing as a screen is between you and your hand which is out to one side on a table.

Mine actually progressed very quickly til I could not get coins out of my purse and the numbness was spreading down the fingers to my thumb. Luckily apart from the numbness had no pain although that is very common. A nerve test is usually done so you could ask Dr about that. No after affects - did the stress ball exercises and as good as new by the time the dressings were off. Just need to work on the scar tissue. This was all before I was dx as diabetic but after I was told I had a "touch" of it about 18 months prior.

Good luck.

Thanks for everyone's help & advise 🙂🙂 think another visit to the dr is needed x
