I have eaten then raw sliced in salads

Definitely! I love them raw on a salad.

Awesome thanks guys, just like the regular closed cup ones are ok? I've been eating them a lot recently cooked down into my mince or roasted along with my Brussel sprouts and as they are carb free its great! (considering I wouldn't go near them before! lol) x

Yes. I prefer those for eating raw as they’re easier to clean.

Awesome, thanks Radders! we've always got a stock in the fridge now cause of my new liking haha xx

Some more exotic mushrooms have to be cooked before eating, but bog standard mushrooms and chestnut mushrooms are fine eaten raw. And healthy, too. And next to no carbs. What’s not to like?🙂

Knew a bloke called Mushroom, he was a fungi to hang around with.

Ditto Mike!

Well if you've now realised you like the taste (and for some reason I grew up believing that though I liked mushrooms - I didn't like M soup until one day the Bakers where I had my sandwich from most days had this delicious aroma emanating from their pot of heated soup - and I knew ot would be OK cos they used Heinz LOL - so I decided to try some. Never have managed to fathom why I thought I didn't like it - cos I do! LOL) you know those large flat capped ones? (Portobello mushrooms, as British as the Queen - well she has still got a bit of German in her I spose, but you know what I mean!) are utterly delicious 'stuffed'.

You don't stuff em of course - there is no cavity! - just lay them skin down on a very slightly greased shallow baking tin, with whatever savoury stuff you fancy (eg chopped lightly cooked bacon and grated cheese) piled atop the 'open' side where the dark brown 'gills' are and bung in the oven for a bit - the fat under and above will cook them through and the topping flavours will meld well.

I bought mushroom mince from Sainsbury’s. Made chilli. Really nice and “meaty”

I used to know someone who was vegan but tried a vegan raw food diet. He used to carry a tupperware container with sliced raw mushrooms and broccoli florets. Alright in itself I suppose but didn't look very appetising on a freezing cold day.

I've had stuffed mushrooms before, not homemade ones though just supermarket ones so they obviously were carby as they had breadcrumbs, I'd make them without then I've got nowt to count! haha xx

Good grief, that’s a bit unnecessary. :D Real mince is nice and meaty, and low carb.

Does sound tasty, though. I cant see mince and tatties being mushroomed in Glasgow, though.:D

Are you OK with cheese Kaylz? Remove stalks from chestnut mushrooms, put a small piece of Stilton in the hollow, pop in oven 200 (fan 180, gas6) for 20 minutes. Other cheeses can be used but I happen to like Stilton best 🙂

Yes as I said I had supermarket stuffed mushrooms, they contained cream cheese, I know how to make them, I just haven't as never used to like mushrooms lol, wouldn't use stilton though as I only eat stilton if its in broccoli soup! haha x

That's another of my favourites, stilton and broccoli soup, got my love of 'mouldy cheese' from my Dad lol

And me from mine! He told us when we were little that the cheesemakers had a team of specially trained maggots to run through the Stilton and come straight out the other side, to create the blue veins. I suspected he was having us on for quite a while, it never put me off eating it cos he assured us you'd rarely find one inside a cheese and by then it would be dead from overeating, and that he'd never found one at all. Well of course if he could get to his great age (40 something? - but parents are ancient aren't they) without that happening - I assumed I never would either - and I haven't so that part's true at least!!

Grand Hotel, Colmore Row, centre of Birmingham - venue for many 'corporate dinners' with their standard limited choice set menu for functions - Mushroom Stroganoff was one of the vegetarian choices - and I used to choose it sometimes though I'm not vegetarian - cos it was really tasty. Served with plain boiled rice and you can easily limit how much if any of it you wanted to eat.

I Don’t eat much in way of red meat, only occasional bacon, nice sausages or ham, but have gone off turkey mince a bit. Not veggie, just odd
