Hi,

Nice to meet you all.
I am reaching out for some advice and help with this as I am quite scared about it.
I've had type 1 diabetes for 35 years, pretty much all of my life, it is generally well controlled and up till this point I've not had many complications.
I got sent a home urine test recently which I completed today, my acr result came back as abonrmal high which has made me really scared about what is happening to my kidneys.
I was on ramipril for a few years but was taken off of them as my results had gone back to normal.
Does a result like that mean I have kidney failure? Has anyone got any experience with this?
I will contact my gp tomorrow to discuss this further but it would be nice to get some advice from anyone who has had a result like this and understand what it might mean for me. I have recently become a dad and am worried I am at risk of a shorter life suddenly!

Hi Lee, welcome to the gang🙂

It would appear that everyone who does such a test gets an abnormal result. Interestingly, I’ve just done an internet search to see if I could find anything on this company, and the only result showed the two threads that mention miniteful on this forum, including this one.

Any reputable company these days would have an Internet presence.

So it appears to be some kind of scam, but I can’t figure out the why. It depends, I suppose, on how much data, if any, you supply to the company. If there is no contact phone number or company address on the documentation then I would be highly suspicious.

I don’t think you need worry, your GP will be able to reassure you and repeat the test, so I’m confident you will be a grandad before the grim reaper calls, at least if you keep up the control. It would be unusual to find renal disease in the complete absence of other diabetic complications or wayward control.

I wonder if you mean Minuteful kidney test kit which does appear to be one being used by some G P surgeries but they should still be telling you that they have requested it not something appearing out of the blue.
