I have been taking metformin for a month now gradually building up to a full dose of 2000mg.
I have lost about 5 pounds which I did not need to do.
I am sure some of this loss is explained by my not eating much some days as I feel nauseous but wondered if anyone else had experienced this.

Metformin can have unfortunate side effects when first used...which ones are you using...the standard ones or the slow release type?...many members here have found the slow release tablets are gentler on our systems..Metformin can give you digestive problems...including nausea...I did suffer the same effects initially when I began using it however after a couple of weeks that did subside...Metformin was also formerly used as an appetite suppressant so that could possibly be affecting your appetite...why not have a word with your surgery...advise them about your difficulties.

Thanks for your reply.I am on the standard tablet.I will see the GP but the 1 who majors on diabetes has a 4 week backlog.

I'm not sure how your surgery operates Jim...with ours you can contact them & ask for a call back...at some point in the day...if you have that at your practice you may be able to get some telephone advice reasonably soon...always worth a try...good luck.

Thanks for replying.Last time I tried that the nurse practioner rang and told me to make a Drs appointment

I have the opposite problem.
Cut the metformin from 1000 mg to 500 mg and started to gain weight. Seven kg more.
I hadn't side effects taking the metformin, but halving the dose now made me hungrier, and having some food control problem.
