Just watched Meridian toight, and it was about type 2 Diabetes. A man had to have his leg amputated because of infection. He apparantley hadn't tested for 3 weeks! and he got the bad infection. The reporter said that type 2 Diabetes is due to lifestyle and obesity and can be prevented by having a healthy lifestyle and eating lots of fruit and veg and exercising.
The man had his leg amputated below the knee and was overweight. He has 3 injections per day.
I don't know what other type 2's think of this. Did anyone else see it? Sheena

Nope never saw the show sheena, just shows one of the bad signs of not keeping good control can cause a person to have a limb amputated, i always keep that in mind if i ever start to get depressed and my testing and control go haywire.I once had a period of not testing for a week i just had lost all motivation i sometimes blame that stupidity for my neuropathy.

I'm a bit sceptical that not testing for three weeks would lead to losing your leg though. Anyway you can all tell your doc this next time you are refused any strips.

It takes time for infection to set in.

My mums friend had a cut on his toe and.ignored it. It wasn't till his wife said it stinks that he got it looked at. He had a choice of about 3 month to live or we remove the foot.

The foot w ent and his up to his knee. This guy is very obese and he'd left his foot some time. The infection turned to gangreen ( not sure how it is spelt ).

Not sure really how long it takes for bad infections to set. We must all be super careful with our feet at all times.

I'm distressed today with some things I saw at the hospital today. Look at my consultant up date thread.
