i have been having a well known side effect of metformin im not kidding you its not a good idea to stand behind me right now:D. it was not until this morning i realised why they have been giving me normal mcfarting instead of the slow release which im supposed to be on you wait until i see my gp hes in for a ticking off

Go and give him a blast Gail!:D:D

LOL at Kate!

Didn't know that was a side effect! Thought it was just the trots when first starting on it.

I don't get the mcfartin comment, when they thought I was T2 & took me off my insulin & put me on it, I wasn't windy any more than a normal teenager.

But yes, go let rip by your gp :D

If it doesn't have that effect, be very very grateful. Sometimes it's hard for me to live with myself!

I do wish we had like buttons like Facebook coz this would get a big tick!

I am a similar sufferer even though on MR! Someone on here recommended charcoal tablets. I take 2 after each meal and this definitely helps - and it is very noticeable if I miss more than 2 doses . One tip never forget a dose and go to bed early - you might not wake up LOL

do charcoal tabs really work? where can you buy them from im so desperate that i will try anything

Rats! That's what I forgot when I popped into Boots! (Gail, they stock them in the indigestion section.)

Think you can also get them in health food shops and most good pharmacies too.

What are charcoal tablets? What do they do? Do they make your teeth black? Do they make you constipated at all?🙂

I have never had them, but my limited understanding things you take them like a tablet and they help relieve things like wind/flatulence.

It's an age-old remedy for absorbing gas - it's what is used in gas masks! 😱 The tablets don't make your teeth go black, I think you just swallow them 🙂

They are available as tablets which do make your tongue black - and will mark clothing if you drop one! They are by Bragg and available in most chemists. They are also available as capsules in a gel case so no black anywhere available from health shops like Holland and Barrett. Either type has the same effect. There are sometimes offers on so use internet to check prices. I take 2 after each meal am and pm - don't bother after lunch.
