Has anyone else had elevated BG with Methanamine?

I started taking Methanamine, as a preventative for frequent UTIs, two days ago.
I have been battling higher BG since and running my pump at at least 150% for my basal insulin. However I am not sure whether this is due the change in meds or a ortisone injection two weeks ago still having an impact, or an infection brewing. Just wanted to see if anyone else has reacted to Methanamine in this way.

It’s not likely to be the Methemanine, mainly because of the way it works, but also it’s been used for a long time and no such affect has been noted. It works by making the urine a hostile environment for bacteria, as long as the urine is acidic - pH less than 7. The methemanine converts to formaldehyde, which is fatal to bugs. (And humans, but nowhere it’s nowhere near the dose that does any harm.)

Because that reaction only works in acidic urine, unsweetened cranberry juice helps it along by acidifying the urine, but I expect you’ve been told that.

So a bug is most likely - colds and such are compulsory at this time of year. It’s less likely to be a cortisone injection, but it depends on where and why you had it. It does linger in some situations.

Thanks Mike

At least it sounds as if I can ignore the change in meds factor, and pleased to hear that the cranberry can enhance the impact of the Methanamine.

I ended up awake last night until 6:00 am when I finally got bellow 14, after a lot of extras by pump and pen and increases in basal rates. My cortisone injection usually prompts an increase of 50% for a week and then gradual reduction but this is an extended reaction if it is that, otherwise I have no idea what it is.

I am still running at 170% but do not feel at all I’ll. just very surprised at how much more insulin I am needing. I stuck to my usual breakfast this morning to do a check, and rocketed up to 17 where I usually blip up to 9. I feel a few fasting tests coming on, which is not the easiest thing to do at this time of year.
