Mashed Potato carbs

Hi, I have come to the conclusion that when I eat mashed potatoes with my evening meal, my level goes from 6.2mmol pre injection up to only 8.2mmol after 2 hours then down to 5.7mmol after 4 hours which isn't good for overnight.
So mash isn't a good carb meal if had on its own with a couple of sausages n veg.
80 gms carbs I took in total
Also does it with Fishfingers
Anyone else had this ????
 
Mash tends to get into (and then out of) your system faster than 'unadulterated' spuds do. Actually, your numbers are good for this meal, its just that you don't want (understandably) to go to bed on that level (I would, but then I have a pump that allows me to do that).
So I would just suggest that, if you want mash for your evening meal, top it up a few hours (3?) later with an oatbiscuit or something similarly slow acting to last you through the night.
 
I agree with Annette, when I was in your position I would have a slice of bread and peanut butter to keep my levels elevated whilst I slept.

However, you shouldn't really have to keep your levels higher than normal before bed, it's a sign that your basal insulin is too high (presuming that you are not going to bed with active novorapid in your system). Have you ever done a basal test to see how your basal performs over 24 hours? Have a look at the following:

It may be that you would be better off either splitting your lantus into two injections, or trying a more predictable/easily splittable basal insulin, like levemir 🙂
