Having lowered my HB1AC quite a bit, I would like to treat myself a bit more. Since becoming diabetic my social life has been virtually non existent.
I would like to go to pubs now and again not into wine or whisky, but a low carb beer or few on a Saturday night out is what I’m looking for and missing most

Hi @Laconic this is were you need to do a bit of carb counting before you go out and checking BS too. Most of the beer on the pumps are quite high in carbs and can dramatically lower your BS so you need to test very often because it affects the efficiency of the liver to introduce sugars into your system. I find Carlsberg Pilsner on the pump is fine at 3.8 ABV and 8.0 carbs a pint, a lot of the light lagers are on a par but you have to keep testing to make sure. Breweries are renowned for altering the ingredients so buyer beware, a glass of water now and then helps. No need to stop socialising with friends I`m always testing in front of friends and once they got used to it they ask me have you tested your BS`s. Real ales, ciders, ordinary bitters tend to be very high in carbs so I stay clear, if you find your BS`s dropping have something to eat carby e.g. digestive biscuits something you can carry easily, hope this helps.
